How are Biostar motherboards today?
So, I've heard bad things about Biostar in the past and I'd like to know what was responsible for such a downfall.
The other thing I want to know is are they getting better and do you think it's worth purchasing now?
Any other recommendations on mobos?
I'd like to get an AMD FX 8 core computer going and wanted some opinions.
All sorts of things from 3D design to photoshopping to really hard gaming. I have this AMD Athlon 64 x2 for five years now and I think it' time to upgrade. I want something that will last me for another good while.
The FX 8 cores aren't too expensive either so I figure it's two bird with one stone.

I built an AM3 rig for a friend a couple weeks ago with a Biostar motherboard. I've heard bad things about them as well, and I've always gone with Gigabyte, Asus, or MSI. But it everything went fine and it's running great now. The main thing you'll usually run into with a board is DOA, which is obvious from the get go. So you may as well give it a shot.
Any particular reason you want an FX 8 core? If you're not doing any video editing you would probably be better off with a Phenom ii x4 965. A core i5 or i7 would be even better. I know the true 8 core processor is cool, and I was about to build one, but after looking at benchmarks and reviews I just couldn't do it. I went with a 2500K.

At one time Biostar was a leader in the mother board industry...unfortunately that have fallen out of favor. There problem seems to be a "hit or miss" affair. One type board may be good the next falls on its face. Judging from customers feedback the FX boards from biostar are not one of the "winners"
A top rated MB would be the Asus Sabertooth, but if you don't need all the "bells & whistles" the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 is a good one too.

If it was me I might buy a asus or gigabyte rather than running down another companies board. I have always used one of these boards, and never had a problem.
