The mainland of China do have difference from Taiwan, but Taiwan still is a part of China. At present, Taiwanese always siad they have freedom and human rights, but mainland China also has these. Mainland is only in process of development, while Taiewan is very developed region.

    -Freedom of press

(China ranks 174 out of 179 nations in freedom of press by Reporters Without Borders: http://en.rsf.org/press-freedom-index-2011-2012,10... while Taiwan is 45, one above the US)

-Taiwan does not prosecute members of certain religions, like China does with the official Catholic church and members of the Falun Gong

-Taiwan does not murder political protesterss. The highest estimate from the Tiananmen Square MASSACRE is 10,000. OF UNARMED PEACEFUL PROTESTERS.

-People in Taiwan aren't forced to have abortions or sterilized if they have more than one child.

Basically, China fails in all aspects of human rights. You're asking lots of questions the Chinese internet police (estimated at 30,000) might find offensive and threatening. Careful.

You know nothing about freedom and human rights because your government teaches the view point that democracy is bad, as far as I know democracy, if you looked at a democracy like USA you would perfectly say hey its bad, but wait, OMG Scandinavian countries are democracy related societies and they often appear yearly in the "Best top 10 countries to live in" year after year, they have low murder rates, low crime rates, there economics are doing well as compared to the rest of Europe and they don't have to rely on Chinese products.

Oh yes back to your question, the differences is that Taiwanese people have a democracy society that allows them to have a trade surplus with China in their favour. Plus they can freely look up anything on the internet to get an unbiased opinion on any subject matter can you view say the wiki page on the 1989 protests without an proxy.

@BBC, CNN are not blocked at the moment, the very fact that you mention that you need an proxy tells us that the govement wants to control information and hence is bias.

The social situation is extremely different between the two countries.

Although the PRC is ever so reluctantly permitting access to information by "The People", there is one caveat: it is still extremely biased towards worshiping the CCP.

Here I sit in Taiwan, and I can stand and salute President Ma walking by on one day, and the next day tell someone publicly that I think he's being stupid about this or that thing... without any fear of reprisals. (It was even easier to do so under President Chen.)

Try doing that in China in regards to Hu or your local political boss and you'll soon see the difference.

However, it's probably not worth the risk for you, now that it has been formalized under CCP law that they can make you disappear anytime they want, and not even trouble themselves with informing your family.

Some great answers we have here. Might I add on:

    -Unlimited, uncensored internet access.

-The right to defend our health and environment, through free criticism of either the government, or businesses.

Have you read Knite? It is an inspiring webcomic about the current environmental crisis China faces and touches on corrupt practices of the Chinese government; the violation of human rights is evident throughout. By the way, it is written and illustrated someone who is Chinese, born and raised in China, and probably has the most reason and knowledge to have written this. You can read it for free at http://yuumei.deviantart.com/gallery/24250483#/d2h...

Oh wait, it's probably blocked in China anyways.... -_-

If the Chinese people love China so much, then just stay there happily and leave Taiwan alone. Japan stands by Taiwan forever...
