Question about bass/ guitar modes and chords?

Say im in G Major, could a chord progression be G major, C major, D7?

Then over that I could use a G major scale, C Lydian and D mixolydian respectively.

Is that right?

You could look at it that way, but you would be making this way too complicated. It's far more sensible to think in terms of G major. C Lydian and D Mixolydian have the same notes as G major, so there is no reason to think in terms of modes here. If you were playing G Lydian over the G major chord or C Ionian over the C major chord it might make sense to think about modes, but this is all G major.

I guess you could think of it that way... that's what basic chord scale theory would say, but you're really just making it more complicated than it needs to be.

The whole thing is in G major. So just play G major. Just stay aware of the chord of the moment and try to emphasize the chord tones and avoid any notes that might conflict with the harmony.

For example, when you're playing over that G chord, you don't want to lean heavily on the C note. It fights with the harmony and just isn't a pleasant sound. Likewise, when you're on that D7 chord, the G note won't sound that great anymore.

So if you want to think of this as playing G Ionian, then C Lydian, then D Mixolydian, fine... but you're over thinking it. Just shut up and play.

definite, to a particular degree it truly is. usual bass tuning is EADG-sound customary? provided that you've been attending to charm to close guitar for about 5 years, looking notes and chords will be common. the single distinction right here will be technique; bass employs a very diverse fingering technique than guitar. i might want to assert that a bass guitar is the perfect 2d device for a guitarist in that you'll have already got the basics down. taking section in bass will also help you with guitar and vice versa. wish that permits!
