Can you post more detail about what version fish you have (Cat fish is a general term for several types).
Also what size tank you have, when it was set up, water test results, and other fish in the tank
-------------------
Ask the place you bought the fish from what it is called, however it sounds like a common Pleco. There are few reason this could of happened starting with being over feed to internal parasite/fungus. I would start with Pimafix and see if it gets better and if it is the only fish in the tank, feed it algae waffles every couple of days. But you need to give me all the information above so I know what the issue could be.
*Note: Common Plecos get large and will need a good size tank. I believe a 75 gallons is the recommened as the smallest size. Start saving up now and look on craig's list for at least a 75 gallon in the near future. You can start a tropical community but make sure you research about the fish you want to buy before buying to prevent death and waste of your money.
