If 4(2x - 3) = 2 -(6 - x), then x =?

If 4(2x - 3) = 2 -(6 - x), then x =

Answer is 1.143

But can anyone tell me the steps on how we got the answer?

    4(2x - 3) = 2 - (6 - x)

    Distribute

    8x - 12 = 2 - 6 + x

    Combine like terms

    8x - 12 = x - 4

    Isolate the variable

    8x - 12 - x + 12 = x - 4 - x + 12

    7x = 8

    7x / 7 = 8 / 7

    x = 8 / 7

    Remove brackets 8x-12 =2 -6+x (Note change of sign of x)

    Subtract x from both sides 7x-12= 2-6

    add 12 to both sides 7x=12+2-6 =8

    divide both sides by x x=8/7 = 1.142857142857 recurring which is 1.143 to 3DP.

    8x - 12 = x - 4

    7x = 8

    x = 8/7 <--would be usual format for answer (1.143 is an approximation)
