Spiritual Question to All..Has the pope given Himself the Authority of God on Earth?? Is this opposite of...?

Luke 4:8..If your answer is NO..Then Read what They say..then Answer this question. This is documented by Rome=research for yourself"Blasphemous titles claimed for the pope have been embellished and enlarged over the centuries. But a few of these boastful claims appear in an ecclesiastical{Roman Catholic} dictionary,by Lucius Ferraris, entitled Prompta Bibliotheca Canonica,Vol.VI,pgs. 438,442,article"Pope" the Catholic Encyclopedia,1913 edition,Vol.VI,p.48,speaks of this book as"a veritable encyclopedia of religious knowledge" and"a precious mine of information" Quotes"

"THE POPE IS OF SO GREAT DIGNITY AND SO EXALTED THAT HE IS NOT A MERE MAN,BUT AS IT WERE GOD,AND THE VICAR OF GOD."

"HENCE THE POPE IS CROWNED WITH A TRIPLE CROWN,AS KING OF HEAVEN AND OF EARTH AND OF THE LOWER REGIONS."

"SO THAT IF IT WERE POSSIBLE THAT THE ANGELS MIGHT ERR IN THE FAITH, OR MIGHT THINK CONTRARY TO THE FAITH,THEY COULD BE JUDGED AND EXCOMMUNICATED BY THE POPE."

"THE POPE IS AS IT WERE GOD ON EARTH,SOLE SOVEREIGN OF THE FAITHFUL OF CHRIST, CHIEF KINGS OF KINGS,HAVING PLENITUDE OF POWER, TO WHOM HAS BEEN ENTRUSTED BY THE OMNIPOTENT GOD DIRECTION NOT ONLY OF THE EARTHLY BUT ALSO OF THE HEAVENLY KINGDOM.

"THE POPE CAN MODIFY DIVINE LAW,SINCE HIS POWER IS NOT OF MAN BUT GOD"

Papal supremacy is directly opposite to the teachings of Scripture Luke 4:8 'THOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD THY GOD,AND HIM ONLY SHALT THOU SERVE"

God has never given a hint in His word that He appointed any man but Jesus Christ to be the head of the church. Now what Say you???

    Pope Peter?

    Peter was married (Matt 8).

    He had children (1Peter 5.13

Peter was wrong in his doctrines (Gal 2.11,14), popes were surpose to believe in true doctrines.

Peter said the supreme political power on earth was the King (Jesus), not the pope.

Peter confessed that the Rock was Jesus (1 Peter 2.4,8).

Paul confessed Jesus was the Rock (1 Cor.10.1-4).

Jesus said He was the Rock (Matt 21.42,44 Dan 2)

A little "rock" is Peter and those adopting this rock are Israel's enemies (Deut 32.31)

Jesus Christ is the Rock of Israel's salvation, not the rock of roman catholicism (Deut 32.31).

Peter said Christians were priests called to offer spiritual sacrifices (1Peter 2.5), not Nicolaitanes

    repeating literal sacrifices (Heb 10.11).

Peter would not allow any one to bow down to him (Acts 10.26).

Peter baptized only adults (Acts 2), after they received the Holy Spirit, not at birth.

"Petros" (Peter) is a rock the size of a baseball.

"Petra" (Jesus) is a slab of Rock big enough to land a B747 on.

Jesus is pointing to Himself when He says "upon this Rock"

Peter followed Jesus Christ, and Jesus was not catholic.

This is a great question and Imacatholic's good answer helped me to understand why they think so highly of pope. However, I strongly disagree that Jesus made Simon ( whom he named Peter ) alone someone with God's authority. I would like to know which one of the popes decided to teach that anyone can buy they way to heaven..that surely did not come from God. I believe Catholics are Christians but many cultists like Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons have copied the style Catholic church have been acting as the only true religion...luckily Catholic church is not like that anymore. Jehovah's Witnesses claim that Jesus Himself appointed them to be the only true channel of communication between God and people. Joseph Smith taylor made " The Book of Mormon, another Testament of Jesus Christ" and they believe they are the only true Christians. We need to inspect all kind of truth claims and back them up with the Bible. Apart from the Word of God we are left with human opinions.

Well first of all the Pope never made himself the authority of anything rather Jesus made him the authority of His Church here on earth along with the Magistrium of His Church (Bishops).

In the early Church they had no such titles but as the Church grew in size the responsibilities of the Bishops also grown. The Apostle St. Peter was always the leader of the Apostles the first amongst equals. And the office of St. Peter continued even after his martyrdom in Rome with St. Linus, there always was one leader of the Church. Now when the early Christian persecutions ended during the 4th century the Patriarch of Antioch and Pope of Alexandria had made claims as being the first amongst equals which was already the title of the Patriarch of Rome. And of course there was no Patriach of Jerusalem prior before the 4th century with the exception of the Apostle St. James the Just because of the early Christian persecutions and Palastine being in a state of civil unrest.

Now during the early Church the successor of the office of the Apostle St. Peter had the title of Bishop of Rome as stated by St. Ignatius of Antioch and St. Irenaeus of Lyons during the 2nd century, latter on the title was given Pope which comes from the Latin word "Papa" for Father, but before this title he was called the Patriarch of Rome, the word Patriarch is the Greek word for "Father". The authority of the Bishop of Rome was first beheld when Pope St. Clement I resolved a matter with the Bishop of the church of Corinth. And Pope St. Victor I excommunicated the Quatodecimans from the Catholic Church.

If the Catholic Church had multipule leaders there would have been division within the Catholic Church. And with no leader there is no organization.

"God has never given a hint in His word that He appointed any man but Jesus Christ to be the head of the church. Now what Say you???"

    Here are your "hints."

Mat 16:18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Mat 16:19 And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.

...and here is the passage to which Christ refers:

Isa 22:20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliacim the son of Helcias,

Isa 22:21 And I will clothe him with thy robe, and will strengthen him with thy girdle, and will give thy power into his hand: and he shall be as a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Juda.

Isa 22:22 And I will lay the key of the house of David upon his shoulder: and he shall open, and none shall shut: and he shall shut, and none shall open.

There are more scriptures, but I want to see your response to these.

    Gosh, copy/paste much?

No, twitlet, he didn't give himself any authority, it was given to him by the Church.

As for Christ being head of the church, that's kinda tough when you're not, you know, present. I don't mean eternally present, or spiritually present, I mean actually IN THE ROOM. Ya know? That's a bit of a requirement for any administrator at any level.

Now turn off the caps lock like a good little anti-papist.

Well the church kind of voted me into my own power. The Church is guided by the Holy Spirit, who according to the trinity is god, therefore the church can't be wrong, as the head of the church that makes me infallible. Of course anyone can claim to be guided by the Holy Spirit I don't understand why people believe me over others. LOL, it is a great scam.

Not only is it a wall of copy and pasted text.

    It's all caps!

    And full of incorrect information!

Although, if you're trying to win the Fundie of the Day Award, you'll need more misspellings.

The Pope is the CEO of Christ in Earth, no question about it as planned n blest by Jesus:

John 1:42 And he [Andrew] brought him to Jesus. And Jesus looking upon him, said: Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is interpreted Peter.

Mark 1:16 And passing by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother, casting nets into the sea (for they were fishermen).

(Mark 1:17) And Jesus said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men."

Matthew 16:16 Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God

Matthew 16:17 And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven.

Matt 16:18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

John 21:17 The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep.

These are the biblical manifestations that St Peter was elevated to a supreme apostleship and we cannot pretend to deny that anymore: the word of Jesus prevail and it is beyond our understanding that lot of people will still distorted the meaning. Obey Jesus.

The position of Pope was established by Christ and the office has been maintained in an apostolic manner since the time of Christ.

Jesus said "You are Peter (Kephas) and upon this rock (kephas) I will build my Church."

Matt. to Rev. - Peter is mentioned 155 times and the rest of apostles combined are only mentioned 130 times. Peter is also always listed first except in 1 Cor. 3:22 and Gal. 2:9 (which are obvious exceptions to the rule).

Matt. 10:2; Mark 1:36; 3:16; Luke 6:14-16; Acts 1:3; 2:37; 5:29 - these are some of many examples where Peter is mentioned first among the apostles.

Matt. 14:28-29 - only Peter has the faith to walk on water. No other man in Scripture is said to have the faith to walk on water. This faith ultimately did not fail.

Matt. 16:16, Mark 8:29; John 6:69 - Peter is first among the apostles to confess the divinity of Christ.

Matt. 16:17 - Peter alone is told he has received divine knowledge by a special revelation from God the Father.

Matt. 16:18 - Jesus builds the Church only on Peter, the rock, with the other apostles as the foundation and Jesus as the Head.

Matt. 16:19 - only Peter receives the keys, which represent authority over the Church and facilitate dynastic succession to his authority.

Matt. 17:24-25 - the tax collector approaches Peter for Jesus' tax. Peter is the spokesman for Jesus. He is the Vicar of Christ.

Matt. 17:26-27 - Jesus pays the half-shekel tax with one shekel, for both Jesus and Peter. Peter is Christ's representative on earth.

Matt. 18:21 - in the presence of the disciples, Peter asks Jesus about the rule of forgiveness. One of many examples where Peter takes a leadership role among the apostles in understanding Jesus' teachings.

Matt. 19:27 - Peter speaks on behalf of the apostles by telling Jesus that they have left everything to follow Him.

Mark 10:28 - here also, Peter speaks on behalf of the disciples by declaring that they have left everything to follow Him.

Mark 11:21 - Peter speaks on behalf of the disciples in remembering Jesus' curse on the fig tree.

Mark 14:37 - at Gethsemane, Jesus asks Peter, and no one else, why he was asleep. Peter is accountable to Jesus for his actions on behalf of the apostles because he has been appointed by Jesus as their leader.

Mark 16:7 - Peter is specified by an angel as the leader of the apostles as the angel confirms the resurrection of Christ.

Luke 5:3 – Jesus teaches from Peter’s boat which is metaphor for the Church. Jesus guides Peter and the Church into all truth.

Luke 5:4,10 - Jesus instructs Peter to let down the nets for a catch, and the miraculous catch follows. Peter, the Pope, is the "fisher of men."

Luke 7:40-50- Jesus addresses Peter regarding the rule of forgiveness and Peter answers on behalf of the disciples. Jesus also singles Peter out and judges his conduct vis-à-vis the conduct of the woman who anointed Him.

Luke 8:45 - when Jesus asked who touched His garment, it is Peter who answers on behalf of the disciples.

Luke 8:51; 9:28; 22:8; Acts 1:13; 3:1,3,11; 4:13,19; 8:14 - Peter is always mentioned before John, the disciple whom Jesus loved.

Luke 9:28;33 - Peter is mentioned first as going to mountain of transfiguration and the only one to speak at the transfiguration.

Luke 12:41 - Peter seeks clarification of a parable on behalf on the disciples. This is part of Peter's formation as the chief shepherd of the flock after Jesus ascended into heaven.

Luke 22:31-32 - Jesus prays for Peter alone, that his faith may not fail, and charges him to strengthen the rest of the apostles.

Luke 24:12, John 20:4-6 - John arrived at the tomb first but stopped and waited for Peter. Peter then arrived and entered the tomb first.

Luke 24:34 - the two disciples distinguish Peter even though they both had seen the risen Jesus the previous hour. See Luke 24:33.

John 6:68 - after the disciples leave, Peter is the first to speak and confess his belief in Christ after the Eucharistic discourse.

John 13:6-9 - Peter speaks out to the Lord in front of the apostles concerning the washing of feet.

John 13:36; 21:18 - Jesus predicts Peter's death. Peter was martyred at Rome in 67 A.D. Several hundred years of papal successors were also martyred.

John 21:2-3,11 - Peter leads the fishing and his net does not break. The boat (the "barque of Peter") is a metaphor for the Church.

John 21:7 - only Peter got out of the boat and ran to the shore to meet Jesus. Peter is the earthly shepherd leading us to God.

John 21:15 - in front of the apostles, Jesus asks Peter if he loves Jesus "more than these," which refers to the other apostles. Peter is the head of the apostolic see.

John 21:15-17 - Jesus charges Peter to "feed my lambs," "tend my sheep," "feed my sheep." Sheep means all people, even the apostles.
