Safe places to live near Auburn Hills, Michigan?

I am thinking about applying for a job in Auburn Hills- I figured I should probably research before seeing as I have never been there. I'm not going to lie, it is very intimidating reading about all of these horror stories about surrounding cities near auburn hills- any suggestions on good cities to live in? or places to live for that matter?

Pontiac and Auburn Hills are neighbors but completely different. Auburn Hills actually used to be called Pontiac Township.

Over 1/2 of Pontiac is bad. Off Hand, though, I cannot think of anyplace in the Auburn Hills city limits I would be uncomfortable raising a family.

Neighboring Bloomfield Township is ultra-wealthy but has NO slums. Rochester Hills to the East is free of unsafe areas. To the north is Orion Township. I would avoid the trailer park off Brown Rd. Its very run-down and half the park is vacant. in the late-90s Id see shady-looking people near the ball court there when I was house-hunting (as a poor man) and now you dont see anyone because so many people moved out, with no one replacing them.

In other words, if you don't live within Pontiacs borders, you shouldnt have much reason to feel afraid.

Troy is about 15 minutes from AH and is regularly ranked one of Michigans safest cities. It has one of Michigans best school districts. Oxford is a bit conservative. You aren't likely to see many Benzes or BMWs there. Its a bit laid-back.

Lyon and Milford are NOT low income. Not by a long shot. People move there because they can get houses with a lot of land. especially Milford. Milford has huge houses on 3 or 4 acres, and they aren't at inner city prices.Southfield tends to be middle-class.The poverty rate is quite low.

Auburn Hills is a fine city, even though it borders Pontiac, one of the worst in the state. I think it's all about the schools. You don't want a place in A. Hills that is serviced by the Pontiac School District or the Avondale - you want to be on the side of town that is in the Rochester school district. You'll never know you weren't in any old suburb in the country in that area.

I would also consider Lake Orion (good schools), Clarkston, and maybe Troy (not too carzy about the politics going down in that city right now). I would stay away from Waterford.

I would rather die than live or work in Auburn Hills. Sorry but Oakland County sucks the total bone. You'll spend the rest of your life in a traffic jam looking at the longest strip mall in the history of the world.

Anything south of Saginaw is pretty crappy on that side of the state.

Definitely avoid Flint. I think Southfield has some decent areas.

    Good luck!
