Taco Bell meat scandal?

All day long from all sorts of people, I have been hearing the same rumor that Taco Bell meat was discovered to not only be beef, but to also be from dog and cat meat, and that the restaurant was temporarily (or maybe permanently) closing. Icky.

So, naturally, I searched online for news about this, but there was none... Is this just a rumor that has been contained within my circle of people around me? Or is it a nationwide rumor started by some dummy? Or is it actually true, and the lack of news means that Taco Bell is trying to hush this up? The world may never know... BUT if you do know anything, let me know! Thanks!

A few years back Taco Bell was caught in the middle of a very public controversy over their taco meat.

The US government tested it and inspected it and claimed that the meat the chain used contained so little actual ground beef that they couldn't legally call it BEEF. It was mostly filler. So Taco Bell was forced to either change their ingredients or stop calling their tacos "beef tacos". They chose to change their ingredients.

There was no mention of dog or cat meat, that part is completely false. No restaurants ever closed. They reacted quickly and the issue was over in a short amount of time. The funny thing is, the new Taco Bell taco doesn't taste nearly as good as the old taco did.

There was plenty of coverage of this event. Nobody covered anything up.

Taco Bell is a franchise, meaning all locations around the country get their meat ingredients from the exact same source. They are required to, or else, the corporation that owns Taco Bell would not allow the franchise location(s) to operate with the Taco Bell name (these corporate people care very deeply about consistently providing the exact same product all across the U.S.). Trust me, CNN or Associated Press would have reported within minutes if the corporate people were really providing dog or cat meat to all the locations. You don't just "hush" something like that up in the United States.

One particular location being in trouble and/or closing down is more than likely evidence of health code violations (meaning they are doing something to the food that poses a health risk to customers like you). The franchise owner(s) would have to be very incompetent to secretly serve crappy meat like that, and considering the MILLIONS of dollars required to operate even one franchise location, this is very, very unlikely.

With that said, there is a reason why Taco Bell sells food for cheap. Its because the food ingredients they buy to make those things is cheap and is cheaply made. Its still crap, even if it is 100% beef. Just don't eat it.

As I understand it they have fixed the problem in the UK / Euro-zone. It sure hasn't occured in the US... the sale of horse-meat for human consumption is a SERIOUS crime in America. You literally can't BUY it here... and if a company mislabelled "beef" that's actually a mix of meats would be open to billions in lawsuits and fines.
