Is anyone hearing strange sounds outside?

On 5/9/2012 my family and I were in Tiffin, Ohio enjoying a brief walk. The sky was mostly bright blue and sunny. There was however a single, large, storm cloud a ways outside of town. My family and I had just gotten back into our car when we heard a strange trumpet-like sound outside. We all stopped to listen. 

At first I though it was a tornado siren but it was much too soft toned and continuous. It also seemed too quiet. Tornado sirens can be heard quiet loud all throughout town and this seemed to be emanating from the sky and coming from a good distance. 

The sound occurred for about 45 seconds and stopped briefly. It then repeated once more. As soon as it finished the second time a massive onslaught of hail began to fall. Oddly enough we were nowhere near any clouds! There was almost no wind and he only cloud in sight was a single storm cloud which appeared to be a few miles outside of town. It was hailing and sprinkling rain in clear blue and sunny sky. 
 
This whole thing was weird. It was also the second time I have heard such a noise. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and/or knows what it is.

I live in Ohio too and I saw that cloud or one like it on that same day and there was a double rainbow from it... then it became the worst day of my life I'd rather not say why, but I'm telling you this because i strongly believe that certain days have a lot of significance when you hear or see something out of the ordinary like that, i can feel it too. maybe something happened for you then too
