Do North Americans watch the IIHF World Hockey Championship 2012?
Given that there is not much going on in the NHL right now and that there are many NHL stars playing for Canada, USA, Russia and Sweden.

Yes I watch this event every year. I know a lot of people in my community carry no interest to the tournament due to the fact that the Canucks are out of the playoffs but that lets me know one thing about these people and that is they truly are not real hockey fans. Sure your NHL club is no longer participating in the Stanley Cup playoffs but a real hockey fan will follow the game. It bothers me at work that in our break room there is a big screen tv and when there is live action of the WHC, the rest of the "numb-nuts" want to watch something not sports related at all. Why nothing sports related you ask? Well you see those freakin' Canucks are out of the playoffs so according to these bandwagoners any kind of hockey (including other Stanley Cup playoff action) is hockey not worth watching. Another reason to hate the local Canuck fan base, now that is not saying every Canuck fan is as bad but let me tell you for the life of me I can't find one of these homers to agree with me on the WHC or the rest of the Stanley Cup playoff action!
Now if any other Canuck fans are offended that I have grouped you into this category with these other meat-heads, and you truly are enjoying other Stanley Cup playoff action and the WHC, than I am truly sorry. Just unfortunate that you are not part of my circle.
Anyways everyone enjoy this weekend! A great line up of hockey starting Saturday with the Rangers and Caps playing game 7 and it will continue straight through deep into next week because the Western Conference final starts Sunday and without hesitation the Eastern Conference final starts Monday. On top of all this the WHC continues too, I hope my PVR doesn't explode by next week!
Enjoy everyone!!!

Not everyone, but there are still a lot people I know (in the US) that watch hockey. It just comes down to interest. From what I hear too, hockey is a popular sport in Canada, so I would assume that Canadians who are fans would also watch.

Yes. Especially since the playoffs have been absolute sh*t this year.
And there are the world's best players this year. Evgeni Malkin, Pavel Datsyuk, Zdeno Chara, Henrik Zetterberg, etc. I mean, take a look at the Team Sweden roster - it is stacked. And Team Canada has a lot of big names though most of them are from teams that didn't make the playoffs.
I don't care for any of the teams that entered Round 2 and don't care at all who wins the Cup this year.

Personally I think the entire tournament is a big joke playing 'The World Championship of Hockey ' without The Worlds Best Players - is Much Alike Playing 'The World Series of Poker' Missing a few Aces...Kings...Jacks... Cannot play a World Series without all The Pieces...
I believe official rankings of countries in hockey should not be based off of this tournament, it should be based off best on best tournaments like the Olympics where each countries level in hockey can be accurately noted. It just makes me laugh at the thought that Finland is ranked Number 1 right now and Canada is 4th lolol.
But yes I do watch it because its hockey and its my favourite sport.

I guess North American house wives do since all games seem to be on between 11:00-2:00 on weekdays. I'll be watching Canada's game today though.

Yes, I watched US vs. Kazakhstan and Canada vs. Finland today. Both were very good matches.
