Why dont airplanes fly west over Hawaii to Asia, when leaving West Coast instead of flying over the entire USA?

It seems like it would take way less time

Update:

@Ramon. The apostrophe didn't fit, genius! Retype the question yourself and see if you don't believe me.

Secondly, I can't afford a globe. Excuse me for not being a rich trust fund baby.

Actually, it is faster for airplanes to fly over the USA than flying across the Pacific Ocean. If you look on a flat map, it looks faster to fly from the West Coast to Asia. But on a globe, the fastest route to Asia is going Northwest over the US to Canada & Alaska, and then to Asia.

The shortest routes between the West Coast and Asia roughly follow the northern shores of the Pacific Ocean. They look curved on a flat map, but on a globe, they are actually the shortest distances between these two points. Going to Asia via Hawaii would be a far longer distance.

watching the holiday spot, you won't fly east or west in any respect. the main suitable/shortest path might desire to be actual be north over the artic area. If that regulate into the case you will possibly fly north than south.

it would take more time since hawaii is 2500 miles south west of the continental US and lot more from japan, china, the philippines, etc. The route they take now up over alaska/russia is faster/shorter

Because the earth isn't flat! The "great circle" route to Asia is much shorter.

They don't because the airlines are just a tad sharper than you at the intricacies of flying the shortest distance around a sphere. Get a globe and a string and see for yourself.
