Cracked teeth after pregnancy?

I just wanted to know how many people had problems with their teeth after pregnancy? Some of my teeth cracked after I gave birth. I went to all my cleanings n such. I only have Medi-Cal which is for **** n that's all they cover is for that n pulling teeth. I keep brushing my teeth n rinsing out my mouth with Listerine. So what is the best dental insurance that I can pay monthly, but doesn't leave me broke as ah joke?! Any advice would help.

You can't buy dental insurance, then immediately go to the dentist to get a crown put on your cracked teeth and expect the insurance to pay. There is usually a wait period for major dental procedures (and crowns are considered "major"). Also, dental insurance generally has an annual maximum benefit which is usually $1000/year. My last dental crown cost $670. My insurance paid 80%, so my out of pocket expense was $134 (the insurance paid $536). I pay $29/month for dental coverage through Blue Cross/Blue Shield. I have had the insurance for over 12 years, paid close to $4000 total in premiums, and received about $3000 in benefits. Dental insurance is generally considered a rip off because of their annual maximum benefits clause.

You'd do just as well putting the money you'd spent on the premium into a savings account...

    Edited:

When you are pregnant, your body will give all the necessary nutrients to your baby first. If you didn't get enough calcium for both of you, the little that you did get went to the baby, weakening your teeth and bones. Cracked teeth can have many other reasons as well though. I cracked my tooth because it was weak due to a large filling.

Be also aware that the dentist may not be able to save your cracked tooth. Worse yet, he won't know that in advance. It depends on how the tooth is cracked. The crack doesn't show up on x-rays, so when the dentist starts drilling to get the tooth ready for the crown, that's when he'll find out. If the tooth cannot be saved, one option is a permanent bridge, another a dental implant. Both are more expensive than just a crown and dental implants often aren't covered at all by dental insurance (mine doesn't). In my area, a dental implant costs about $2000 (per tooth) plus cost of a crown (another $670). That's $2670 for just ONE tooth... I checked into everything when I cracked my tooth. Fortunately, in my case a dental crown fixed my problem.

    Good luck to you!

baby doesnt take your calcium. teeth changes during pregnancy are because of the hormones. i think its safe to get it sorted now, as long as your dentist knows you are pregnant.
