Blood Pressure Problem?

I have always had little spells of being lightheaded, which occur sitting, standing, walking, almost anytime throughout a given day. Never really been cause for concern because it's so normal for me.

However, just recently, I was worried when a sudden stabbing pain occurred on my left side, lasting a little over ten minutes. The pain also was felt in my left elbow and my pulse felt thick and pounding in my left wrist. It had me frightened and laying on the couch with my feet up for a while until the strange sensation passed. When it did, I was fine again and able to continue on with my day. Later that night the pain again came, only to a lesser degree, and this time it didn't cause me to worry as much (I've experienced this mild chest pain before and was used to it.)

Lately, I've been very tired, with the mild chest pain coming and going, and have experienced my usual lightheaded sensation and dizziness more times that usual throughout the day.

My usual blood pressure is about 118/76 with a pulse at about 60 (resting), but recently it has been an average of 108/62 with a pulse of 85+ (resting) and the lowest reached is 90/56.

I have a family history of hypertension, and so have always been healthy and active (Biking, jogging, etc.), but recently this problem is becoming a hindrance and keeping me in bed and at rest for most of the day.

Any suggestions on what could be the problem?

You have got orthostatic hypotension. When you have symptoms from a drop in blood pressure, you should immediately sit or lie down and raise your feet above heart level. Your cardiac muscles starve for oxygenated blood. Hence you get chest pain. In order to get more oxygenated blood, your heart beats rapidly.

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS, also postural tachycardia syndrome) is a condition of dysautonomia, to be more specific orthostatic intolerance, in which a change from the supine position to an upright position causes an abnormally large increase in heart rate (> 100 beats per minute), called tachycardia.

Red blood cell quantitative level and hemoglobin level should be increased. Drink more water or vegetable soups etc.

    Possible Complications:--

    * Shock

    * Injury from falls due to fainting

Falls are particularly dangerous for older adults. Fall-related injuries, such as a broken hip, can dramatically impact a person's quality of life.

Severe hypotension starves your body of oxygen, which can damage the heart, brain, and other organs. This type of hypotension can be life threatening if not immediately treated.

Some of those symptom's sound related to your blood pressure. You could have blood flow problems. It would help if you listed your stats: age, height, weight, ect. Then people could have a better idea of what your body is like, as that other poster stated a possibility of diabetes. The best option though is to consult a doctor, if this is a continual problem and it's almost constantly affecting you you really should have it checked by a professional as soon as you can. Headaches, tempt, and dizziness are not something to ignore. Good luck and take care

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Does the sudden stabbing pain happen when you are having a slightly vigorous activity than you usually have? And the pain is relieved when you are resting?

According to your Blood Pressure and Pulse result, you have normal BP and Pulse rate..

With the family history of hypertension as well as the duration, location and type of pain, I'm afraid if it is angina pectoris..

Anyway, it is quite common for people nowadays to get angina pectoris.. It can be controlled through drugs and healthy diet (have more HDL instead of LDL).. Control the emotion should be OK..

Diagnosis cannot be done through only Yahoo.. I suggest you better consult your doctor so that you will have a better understanding about your health.. Prevention is better than cure..

    Good LUCK!

    Hope this helps!
