as many have stated, yes the .22LR is a fine choice for several reasons:

1.ammo is common- you'll find it everywhere even at walmart!

2.pricing is great considering the amount of ammo you get. ( A brick-usually a 500rd box or so for 15-24$) you cant beat that!

    3. 22LR rifles majority are les expensive then other calibers like .223or etc.

    4. will not mess up game meat as much like other calibers unless your using HP, then you have a higher chance of messing meat up more.

good hunting and clean killing sport!

also on advice for what type of action rifle to get, i'd say go with a semi, this is why- if for some reason you had to defend your self from a animal or someone trying to break into your house, you'd have the advantage of shooting more rounds faster than a bolt action. this is termed: RATE OR FIRE...also to be a better shot, yes you need patience and practice which both a semi and a bolt can offer you, although you might be tempted to shoot as fast as you can on a semi but if your patient , a semi will be perfect for if you have patience you can achieve one shot kills and at the same time if need be have extra rounds to use just by pulling the trigger compared to a bolt action.

Back in the day any muzzle loading rifle of small, ie around .30, caliber was known as a squirrel gun though a good many eastern whitetail fell to one of those small balls. If you build one I definitely recommend a percussion model as the whoosh bang of a flintlock tends to remove the element of surprise, and squirrels can be elusive lil devils when you're on the hunt. Keep in mind that with a muzzle loader you are in effect handloading every shot, so you can send a patched round ball at anything from slingshot speed to close to 2,000 feet per second. They can be a very flexible tool for the careful hunter. Personally, I'd go ahead and burn both your name and grand dad's in the wood. It's your gun and you will want to keep it as a family heirloom.

A .22 rifle is excellent for squirrel because a shotgun tends to ruin the meat (too many pellets). There is no "best" manufacturer or model, as far as suitable squirrel hunting rifles go--although it would be wise to put something like a 4 X scope on the rifle

A .22lr rifle is really the best choice for hunting squirrels. The caliber will not obliterate the meat and .22lr is really cheap to shoot. The .22lr projectile is perfectly adequate for squirrel hunting.

I don't have a .22lr for hunting purposes, but when i'm ready to buy one, i'm planning on buying a Savage Mark II with the accutrigger. It's a bolt action rifle.

A .22 is best to start with! I recommend a single shot. It will force you to go slow, focus your aim, and make your one shot count. This builds great hunting skills which you can use in the future on bigger game(with a bigger gun, of course). Plus a single shot quick-kill = a humane kill! No reason to make an animal suffer.

    Good luck, have fun!

The .22lr is a good option. If you think you will go "tacticool" and add a bunch of things like stocks and other aftermarket add-ons go with a Ruger 10/22. If not go with the Marilin model 60.

A 22lr is a squirrel killing machine. Really nothing better. The big plus is the ammo is so cheap, you can practice, practice , practice.

.22lr best gun in the world I love it or a 20 gauge shotgun or .410 shotgun

  • A high powered pellet gun or a .22
