Bent Bike Rim/Wheel!?

I bought a bike last yr. I had it tuned up after i bought it. Only to find that the rear rim is bent. The first time i rode it, the inner lining popped. I assume this is due to the fact that the rim is bent. I know I should have returned it before the tuneup. Hindsight is 20/20. Never buy a bike from walmart. How much will it cost to replace this? Any advice?

The inner lining, I assume you mean the inner tube, popped. That usually would be unrelated to the bent rim. Most likely just poor rushed assembly leaving the inner tube pinched by the tire bead.

A real bike shop can asses the rim and advise on repair and/or replacing the whole wheel. Get a double wall rim, stronger spokes, and a free-hub and cassette (I got two new wheels like that for less than $100 but the shop know me and got a discount.

If the bent is minor, it may take a few minutes to true and cost very little but if it is really bad it may take hours of labor. Also, some cheap wheels come with spokes and nipples of such a poor quality that they are practically not worth to fix. Cheap wheels also come with a freewheel and a weak axle and poor bearings. Getting rid of the whole wheel would be the best line of action.

(counting on how undesirable the bend is you ought to to loosen the spokes, yet whilst it rather is a reasonable bend on say one fringe of the wheel, you would be waiting to restoration without to lots problem. What you pick is a vise, like one on a bench (amazing), you are able to squeeze the bent section by way of putting 2 products of wood between the wheel and the vise tooth (so purely the wood touches the wheel itself), then squeeze by way of tightening the vise, (this could be a sluggish technique so wait and see) (notice: you're purely SQUEEZING ONE area AT A TIME, do no longer positioned the whole WHEEL interior the VISE, FROM middle OF WHEEL TO RIM, no longer RIM TO RIM, you will narrow the size OF THE WHEEL) in case you have a small set of vise grips (2 to be amazing) you are able to hold the wood utilising the vise grips so your palms are loose, otherwise have your son/daughter as an performing participant : ) IF THIS BEND seems risky, PLEASE TAKE IT TO a motorbike shop and function IT regarded at, protection FIRST. thank you.

One trip past your local bike shop would answer the question. Depends on the quality of the wheel too. $75 to $200. Take your pick.

May as well upgrade to a double wall rim & a cassette if possible.

I am sure you can find a good used wheel on eBay. Just make sure it's the right size. Garage sale is a good place to find them, too. Less than 50 should be doable. Do some research on you tube on how to fix a bike wheel.

Check to see if you rim tape. If not, use rim cloth tape.

A wobbly rim will not pop the tube.
