Antibiotics and menstrual cycle...?
I finished my cycle about a week ago and then came down with the flu. I went to the doc and he gave me a 3 day course of Zithromax antibiotics.
As I'm on birthcontol pills, the doc told me to carry on with them but use extra protection. I decided to not take them (as usual when I'm taking atibiotics).
I finished the 3 day course and 3 days later started my cycle again. It's a little heavier than normal flow and a brighter red.
Do you think this is ok? Tell me about your exeriences. I'm wondering if the Zithromax in particular has anything to do with this. Thanks.
@Tarkarri: I had never really thought about it in that way, but you make sense. I guess it would help if the doc would explain why and if I ask him more questions lol.

Antibiotics don't mess with your menstrual cycle, they reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills.
Stopping taking your birth control pills messes with your cycle, which is why your Dr told you to continue taking them.

hi its not the antibiotics that have upset your cycle its the fact that you stopped taking your pill thats what has made you see blood when you take antibiotics they can stop the pill from working thats why you should use a condom while taking them, but also carry on taking your pill as you would do you need to do this so you are still protected when the antibiotics are fininished and you keep the hormone level up so you dont see a break through bleed. Hope this helps take care.
