Trying to understand how Mircosoft Outlook works...... can you help me?

I'm using my mother's computer looking for a job. I need to know what steps to I need to take to create an account from her Microsoft Outlook so that I can send and recieve email responses. I need the simplest form of step by step procedures. I tried but I don't understand what POP.3 or STMP etc. but I'm technically challenged and all this technical stuff is too confusing.....PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!...I have a yahoo account is that ok?

    "Click on the File tab to open up Backstage View and then click on the Info tab on the left. At the top of the screen, you should see the Add Account button.

    Clicking on that will display the Add New Account window, where you will type in details about the new account. These details include:

    ■The name for the account

    ■The email address

    ■The password you use for the email account

    ■The password retyped

    You’ll notice that there are 3 radio buttons for Email Account, Text Messaging (SMS) and Manually configure server settings or additional server types. Make sure that Email Account is selected and then click Next.

    Initially, Outlook tries to establish an encrypted connection to the email server. If that fails (and often it does – it’s nothing to worry about), a following screen is displayed:

    Click Next, and Outlook will try to establish an unencrypted connection to the email server. When successful, you will see a following window:"

    click finish and you are done
