For the people who blamed Obama for rising oil prices, are you giving him credit for recent falling prices?
1. For the people firing back at me. I'm not an Obama supporter, I'm just not stupid enough to think he dictates oil prices.
2. For the people who say gas was low when he took office. 5 months before he took office it was at a record high. How come nobody ever mentions that?
3. Gas prices are cyclical. They are low in winter, high in summer, and rise year over year. This isn't quantum physics. We all learned about patterns in preschool, right?

Good points made. If the skeptics and right-wing Faux "news" afficianados would take the time to actually RESEARCH the whitehouse.gov website, they would discover that the Obama administration called for an investigation into why oil prices were soaring despite having more reserves than anytime in history. A consumer-protection panel of experts was established to discover ways this price-gouging could be addressed or brought under control---something for which there should have been more fanfare, in my opinion. The findings showed, among other things, that the price-gouging was "market driven" (caused by the same sort of "speculators" or investors that also created the ner-fatal credit-default swaps and high-risk derivatives betting that brought on the housing and credit markets' COLLAPSE in 2006 followed closely by the banksters' FINANCIAL SYSTEM MELTDOWN due to massive DEREGULATION on the part of the corporate-colluding nation-destroying GOP).
Some involvement in the deliberate sabotage of our fragile slow-but-steady economic recovery was attributed to the Koch brothers oil barons, accused by David Axelrod and others, who sought to keep prices artificially high in order to aid and abett the far-right-wing opponents of President Obama during this election year.
To his credit, President Obama has called upon his team to find ways for bringing the higher prices under control to whatever extent a President's Administration can do so. The long-term focus by the Administration on President Obama's "green energy" technologies initiative since first taking office (see recovery.gov and whitehouse.gov for more details) that is designed to make the U.S. a WORLD LEADER in the manufacture and sale of renewable energy resources may also be a factor in reducing demand on foreign oil, as is the simple fact that our oil production in this country is now at its highest level ever---something attributable to Barack Obama's ongoing efforts on behalf of the American people and our nation's economic recovery.
I'm betting that no far-right-wingers are willing to give credit to President Obama for ANYTHING that is good. Sad, isn't it? One is inclined to wonder what these mean-spirited highly partisan neocons said when the oilmen Bush and Cheney had the prices over $5 a gallon beginning in 2003 with the ILLEGAL invasion of a sleeping Iraq...price-gouging that continued for several years and precipitated the Republican-caused COLLAPSE of our housing and credit markets, which then toppled our entire FINANCIAL SYSTEM in a massive globally-significant MELTDOWN.

Obama responsible for rising gas prices? Gas was over $4.50 last summer under Bush. This summer it's about $2 dollars cheaper than last year. Part of the problem is, if you watch the news, is that investors are buying up petroleum stocks which drives the price of a barrel of oil up. Also refineries are hoarding oil. Please get your facts straight, so you don't sound like an idiot. Now, I'm not saying you're an idiot, just make sure you don't sound like one.

Yes he gets complete credit for the fact that gas prices are nearly double what they were the day he took office and he gets complete credit for the economy taking another slide downward ,which is lowering the price that fuel is trading at because people have less to spend and are taking less trips this year. YES Obama gets all of the credit for these and all of his failures.

The president does not control oil prices, the markets do. However the president's policies towards oil drilling can affect the price because of speculation. Obama is not a fan of the oil industry and his policies have affected the price.

I wonder whether the people who gave Obama credit for the rising stock market will now blame him for the fall.
- Anonymous9 years ago
Yes. Rising oil prices were mainly a result of demand because of increased manufacturing which is now tanking. I give him full credit for the economy going back into recession.

Absolutely. I give him 100% credit (if you can call it that) for declining real estate values. Of course, skyrocketing grocery prices is another issue. And we should just overlook the fact that gas was $1.60 a gallon when the former President left office.

The buck stops with him. Besides with his wonderful rule of 10% ethanol in all gas, less is now more because of less gas mileage and engine damage on cars not fit to use ethanol. Peace

Falling? To a national average that is still almost twice what it was when Obama took office? Nope. When it gets down to around $2, then I will give him credit. Oh wait, when that happens, Romney will have already been president for a bit.

Not really because I believed you when you said he had no control....I guess because we all know he has no control over anything and that he is an enigma with out any kind of experience. Bill Clinton even said so.
