Landlord reduced rent?

So my rent was originally $450 a month. I paid this diligently since November when I signed my lease. Well last month I needed to get a new copy of my lease for something but couldn't find mine so I asked him if I could pick up another copy. The next day we met up with a new lease. It was the same thing but we had to sign it again since he didn't actually make copies of the ones we did in November. Well in the rent part he wrote "$400". I asked him about it and he said it's always been $400. I feel silly even "arguing" about a reduced rent but I'm just curious why he would do it, especially when I corrected his mistake.

Has this happened to anyone else? Should I bring it up again or just drop it?

Update:

I don't see a problem with it, I'm just curious why he would do it. We usually just cash my husband' check and pay it out of that.

I would just drop it but at the same time be mindful of the situation. Keep your records organized as if you had to go to court to defend yourself if his memory fails him.

I knew a couple when I was in college who lived in a nice old Victorian home at only $100.00 a month, it was an awesome deal until the landlords family got wind of it and jacked the rent up to standard market rates at the time. The Landlord was very old and only charged them what he wanted...

So you never know. When you corrected him did you show receipts or make mention you had them?

Your LL might want to take advantage of you at some point, just be careful.

well if it has always been $400 then he needs to credit you the extra you have been paying towards your next rent. do you have cancelled cheques or receipts showing you were paying $450 every month. other than that, i see no problem with this...do you?
