Without a smart-phone, how do I IM chat to a friend who has a smart-phone?
I'm somewhat behind the times and won't have a smart-phone for at least six months. However, a friend has just upgraded to an HTC running Android and using Touch (formerly Ping Chat) [1], and is keen to IM chat for free when she's in a free (or home) wi-fi zone.
I have three devices that I could use to connect:
- laptop computer, running Fedora Linux.
- Arnova 10 G2 tablet [2], running modified Android Gingerbread.
- Nokia 6303i classic [3], with Ovi Store.
I could add something like Qeep [4] to the Nokia, but I don't have data in my contract.
I've tried a couple of chat apps on the tablet, but they seem to be designed for a smart-phone, whereas my tablet doesn't have a SIM card, etc. And I can't access the full app library, only the Apps Lib [5].
Any suggestions, please?

Lumia 800 is the most proper. Its swifter than S2 in a lot less hardware config also. I have both and in no way considered lumia to get hanged. you receives a lot less apps to acquire now its stand round 60000. yet in android ninety% apps are crap apps. Lumia is too person pleasant and its equipped on what person generally do in commonly used existence. OS is wonderful. with next replace code named as applo it receives many more effective helpful homes that its lacking at the second one. its bootup is amazingly quickly to boot. So bypass with Lumia 800 with out 2d theory

Use your Arnova to get TextPlus from the Google Play Store (Market). It gives you a phone number and allows you to text for free over your internet connection.

Look up a program named bluestacks. It allows you to download Android apps and run them on Windows OS. It works

Many non-smartphones support whatsapp messenger. Try that.
