Is my little sister using "uppers"?

My little sister just turned 17 in April. Being 17, she's obviously moody and rebelious. But over the past few months she's went from just normal teenage angst and sleeping late to completely manic. I just came home from school last weekend after not seeing her since Christmas. She's lost about 30 pounds and she has these big dark bags under her eyes. I've only been home for a week, but I've yet to see her sleep. I caught her pacing back and forth in the living room at 2 am last night. And mom doesn't seem to care (drugs run in the family).

My little sister is my life. I'm her big brother and only 22, but I've always had to look after her as if she were my own kid. Like I said, drugs are a big problem in my family. What should I do to help her?

Drugs run in my family too, sadly. Sit down with your sister and talk to her about her dreams and what she plans for the future. If your watching T.V. put on a special on how drugs kill people or tell her something about how drugs seriously mess up lives so she can open her eyes. Tell her you care about her a lot, have a heart to heart conversation .

There are organizations like Alateen for kids with alcoholic parents. There are probably organizations for those with parents or brothers or sisters with drug problems too. I'm sorry I can't tell you what they're called, I don't know their names but just google it and you'll probably find something.

    Best of luck.
