How much to offer a Handyman to repair a non-working doorbell.?

Okay, semi-disabled and not Do-It-Yourself experience. What might be a good offer for task? Thanks for consideration.

Update:

Would HOA traditionally say no to wireless (battery operated) units. Haven't seen any others on property. Will ask, but don't want to interfere with HOA Gawds (Gods?).

Labor prices vary around the country. It'll cost significantly more in New York City than in Oil City PA.

There are only a few things it could be: the doorbell button, the transformer (or power to the transformer) the bell itself or the wiring in-between any of the aforementioned - the wiring is the worst-case scenario but the least likely culprit. The button is probably the most likely culprit.

So, a little time to diagnose it, maybe a trip to the store, and the actual replacement. How long that takes and what the going rate is in your area will determine the cost.

You may be better off buying a new doorbell, one that is wireless. It consist of a battery powered button outside that has a transmitter that sends a signal to the inside unit.

I can't see why they would say no to a wireless door bell. They have a small button and are not ugly. You can ask. Sometimes wired doorbells are a hassle to fix because they are wired into the walls. I replaced mine with a nice one from the orange box. (Home Depot)

If it turns out to be a bad switch, this should be discovered and repaired quickly, so about $30 for up to a one-hour job. If it is discovered that the power supply/transformer part of your doorbell is bad, it will probably need to be replaced. This will take a bit longer, but $30/hr is still quite fair.

I agree with Steve. The cost would be much more than $30.00 per hour.

The Sacramento CA area would be more $75-$110 per hour.
