Why is it "wrong" to eat what animals produce naturally?

Like eggs for example? My dad has several hens and they lay many eggs that he has stock piles of them he sells. He takes very good care of his hens. I know exactly where they come from and how they are treated, and I know that he is not trying to breed them so these eggs are not being fertilized. In this instance, why would eating/using an egg be morally wrong? I get why someone would be vegetarian, but I don't understand vegans. There are many local farmers that treat their livestock very well and milk their cows, collect their eggs etc. in nothing short of an ethical way. I don't see how this is "wrong". Thoughts?

Update:

I'm referring to local farmers, not commercial meat factories. I'm talking about those people you see on the side of the road selling their veggies, eggs, milk etc.

The issue isn't the eating of those products, it's the commodification involved.

Whether your dad "takes very good care" of the animals he uses as things is a welfarist concern.

Moreover, the vast majority of animal products DON'T come from idyllic setting like your father's-

they're from horrific places of intensive confinement, and when the animals are spent- from having their bodies shocked via starvation and sunlight deprivation into extra laying cycles, or exhaused from having been kept constantly pregnant for years (chickens and cows, respectively) they're slaughtered.

More importantly, there IS NO REASON to consume animal products. The nutrients are available a-plenty elsewhere without the fat, cholesterol, and calories. Dairy consumption is linked to a number of diseases, as per every study ever done on the relationship between diet and human illness.

Well, the simple answer is that most vegans do not have access to the type of eggs you are talking about. Even the best farms usually kill some of the animals, or sell them to be killed. For the vast majority of people, being vegan is the only ethical option.

Milk is a different question, as collecting that seems rather invasive, and requires depriving calves, no matter what.

The meat and dairy industries are very closely linked. Male calves are often destroyed soon after birth as they cannot produce milk, and are turned into veal. Slaughtering methods remain inhumane. This in my opinion is unethical.

On top of this, much of the milk we drink is not produced 'naturally'. Dairy cows are inseminated over and over again, forced to give birth repeatedly so that they keep producing milk. These results in udder infections for the cows who are being forced to produce milk, and the slaughter of more and more unwanted calves. Again, this in my opinion is unethical.

Male chicks are also often destroyed, in an inhumane fashion, because of their inability to produce eggs. Chickens who do produce eggs are kept in filthy, cramped conditions, and 'free range' means absolutely nothing.

I don't mean any offence here, but I don't care what your dad does. I follow a vegan lifestyle as a stand against the long history of mistreatment of animals by the farming industries. It is a decision based on the nature of farming methods in general. If your dad must sell eggs, then it is good that he is producing them in the way you say he is, but I still wouldn't buy eggs from him because I do not believe animals should be exploited by humans in this way. I just want to avoid that whole area as much as I possibly can. That's my personal choice.

Well, whatever your dad's methods, he still supports and operates within an unethical industry (in the view of vegans). I'm talking about the bigger picture here.

Would you want to live in a small area and have another creature regularly take something from you without your approval? Sounds to me like what us humans call "theft."

Also, the practice of eating eggs and drinking milk is very much a feminist issue. What happens to the male chickens and cows? They can't produce what is demanded so do you think the farmer lets them live out their lives? No, they get slaughtered for those McNuggets and burgers. How tasty /sarcasm.

Watch the documentary Forks Over Knives... There is a direct link to eating animal based products and cancer, stroke, heart disease, and diabetes. Eating a "whole foods, Plant based diet" (aka Vegan) will actually significantly decrease these risks.

While I am at school, I am eating Vegetarian, but as soon as I go home for good, I will be eating a full vegan diet.

Well, it encourages people to keep hens and other animals in small tiny cages, and treat them really cruelly just to mass produce those eggs.

Sure not all farmers and such are like that, but some definitely are, and if everyone was vegan then this wouldn't occur.

Well, I heard that dairy cows are supposed to live for over 20 years on average (naturally), but with all the continuous milking, they generally only survive just over 4 years. They can no longer stand due to exhaustion and are therefore transported to slaughter houses.

I thought you used to be a vegan (?). Anyway, vegans oppose the use of animals, full stop. The animals don't produce those things for humans to consume. It is seen as using the animals as nothing more than food machines, regardless of how well the animals are treated.

Everything you eat is alive. Those eggs, that milk will waste otherwise. Is that right? We are omnivores, by nature's design we are meant to eat both plant and animal. Ultimatly, unless you are a lithovore or something similar, you must consume biological matter to survive. Be it plant or animal. Rationalize it as you will but, everyday you kill something that was alive so you can eat, and so does everyone of those fluffy little animals. Right? Wrong? It's really best just not to think about it.

Chickens aren't meant to lay eggs for humans to eat and cows milk is supposed to be for baby cows.
