Are you vegan for religious, philosophical, or ethical reasons?

I'm curious as to what power compelled your decision to live outside of your natural instincts? Why is it that some of our species is the only species that seem to rebel against ourselves and nature? DO you think it has to do with an emotional response to our modern environments? I've talked to my grandparents about the idea of vegan-ism and it was unheard of to them when they were my age. What do you think has changed in the minds of some humans?

Update:

@ABC: Ethics and philosophy are not the same thing at all. I think you are thinking of moral-philosophy which has to do with the study and discussion of ethics. Ethics is an actual moral foundation not a philosophical discussion. Thank you for your answer though.
