Boxers are great but energetic, and very physically playful. They can be alot to handle if you are getting a pup or untrained youngster. A beagle is a loving dog but they tend to range very far if left off leash.... that tracking nose of theirs works overtime. It is up to you. Can you walk for miles each day with a boxer and train it and take it out on outings, It will need lots of physical stuff to do. But then again all dogs need exercise. You owned a boxer , did you have it from young? They are wonderful dogs. I don't know much about beagles only what I see in the neighborhood. They seem always following something by scent, when off leash always being chased by owners screaming 'come , come, come here" :-)

I always owned dobes but found at 60 a dobe (even a youth) is a bit much for me now. But have a 5 and 3 yr old. (thank god they arent puppies anymore) If your mobility wanes what will you do? I have just torn a medial meniscus (knee) and it is a problem exercising them ENOUGH to keep them satisfied.. . Remember you will have this dog for YEARS. good luck why not just go look at rescues of all types , one may just speak to you.

They are both great dog breeds. However I will say, Boxers have a high energy level and a knack for jumping on people when they're not trained. Due to being a little bigger they can cause injury. That might be a small problem for an older couple. On the other hand Beagles have high energy levels also, but are smaller and easier to handle.

If you loved the boxer you had, get another one. Beagles are great dogs but they need LOTS of attention. My family had one but we had such busy schedules that we couldn't keep up with it. It would always bark and howl and scratch at the door and I'd go play for an hour or two and then walk it for 30 minutes but that wasn't even close to enough. One day it was barking and jumping as I was leaving to practice and it jumped the fence and before I could get to her she was hit by a car. So if you get a beagle be prepared to dedicate a lot of time to it.

If I where you, I would go for a beagle because Beagle is loving, sweet and gentle. Beagles have minds of their own. They are determined and watchful and require patient, firm training. Beagles will do okay in an apartment if they get plenty of chances to be outdoors. They are very active indoors and a small yard will be sufficient.

It depends on how often you can give the dog exercise, boxer's are the highest energy dogs and beagle's are a bit more laid back but they have loud vocal chords.

I recommend getting a shelter dog, as there are so many in dire need of homes. You can find dogs of all shapes, sizes, ages, and breeds there. You would also be saving a life, as millions of shelter dogs are killed each year because of the lack of homes. If you insist of a purebred, please go on Petfinder.com. You can search by breed and age for dogs in need of homes in your area.
