How to become a music producer/ audio mixer?

I've been thinking about this, but i don't really know that much. What high school courses would be best to take? Are there any courses that you absoloutly need? What are some of the carrers you can go into with these?

Update:

I'm Canadian... so we don't do SAT's.

Ok. Im gonna tell you straight up because I myself am going to become a music major and im in highschool. Honestly, it doesnt matter what classes you take in high school. Just make sure that you graduate and that you get four years of fine arts and do well on the SAT or ACT and transcript. Next, know how to play music. A music degree requires you to know how to read and play music, along with understanding it. Next, find the right college or university. Idk where you are, but if you were to live in the new england area, the New England Conservatory wouldnt help. Instead, Berklee College of Music would be perfect since they are prestigeous in their music tech programs. If you are looking for a public university, then some good options are Michigan Ann Arbor, Boston University, Oberlin, and even places like U Miami. But in high school, not a whole lot matters. As for careers, look them up. There are a wide variety. Good luck to u man, we need more musicians out there.

I'll say this, I've put out 4 CD's 2 Mixtapes, 10 compilations out of my bedroom.. I have about $10,000 worth of software and too much in equipment. The best way to learn is to get some software and play with it. Hands on is the best way. School can help you with generalities, experience will help you with detail.

    Just my opinion.
