Luke sky walkers father in star wars?

I know that it is darth vader but why In episode IV does obi won say that darth vader killed Luke's father?

    Because Darth Vader was Anakin's evil side. It consumed the good side of him, so in a "certain point of view" as Obi Wan says in Episode VI, it killed him.
