How are the ACTs different from the SATs?

I took the SATs w/out studying and got a 2180. I was planning on just taking the ACTs but people keep telling me they're different. I just kind of expected my SAT scores to correspond directly to the ACT ones, but now I'm not so sure. I'm taking them on June 9th, should (can I) study for them and if so, what's the best way to study?

PS: My weakest subject is math. I got a 690 on the SAT math, as opposed to 730 and 760 on reading and writing.

The SAT has a wrong answer penalty, the ACT doesn't.

The SAT has a Critical Reading, Math and Writing section accounting for 33% of your score each, the ACT has a Reading, English, Math and Science section, accounting for 25% of your score each.

The essay on the SAT is required, not on the ACT. However, the college you're applying to may require it regardless of which test you took.

The SAT's format is tricky, the ACT's is straightforward.

Most SAT takers are on the East and West coast, while most of the ACT takers reside in the central states. But it's up to you about which one you want to take and send to colleges.

The math section on the SAT focuses on problem solving, the ACT focuses on knowing the formula.

The SAT focuses on college level vocabulary on the Critical Reading section, the ACT focuses on grammar.
