Hong Kong or Manila for vacation?

go to Manilla. Hong Kong is way too over populated and much stricter rules.

I would suggest you to go to Hong Kong. You may need to pay a bit more in Hong Kong for accodmodation and food but choices are increditble. However places to see in Hong Kong are more compact. Transportation is easy and convenience. Most of the people can speak Cantonese and English. It is safer to travel around even day or night.

I can't help but recalled this incident http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-11055... where Hong Kong tourists were held hostage in Manila, so well, perhaps I would favor going to Hong Kong.

But Hong Kong is very very crowded and everyone is always rushing to somewhere. There's a saying that one rubs shoulders with everyone on the street because it's just so crowded! You may want to consider other countries though. You can check out the site below.

Go to Hong Kong. Then while you are in Hong Kong, take a day trip to Mainland China and visit Shenzhen. It is like a Chinese Tokyo. The prices are awesome, and the sights are really very different than the westernized Hong Kong scene. Then, go take a day trip to Macau. Thus, a trip to HK, can result to three completely different cities with completely different feels to them. All are easily accessible by ferry or subway. Right now, Shenzhen and Hong Kong is still cool. The monsoon reains haven't kicked in and it's really kind of nice.

Not much for a vacation in either Megametropolis. But, if you like putting up with traffic and pickpockets, then that's your business. Why not go to Seattle instead?
