What are gay bars like and what age should I start going to them?

So basically I live uin a city called York in England and it's quite small although I'm near a city called leeds which is very big and I've only ever had one boyfriend and he's a douche bag, I'm soon to be 16. What are gay bars like, and I hear it's a great way to meet other gay people shall I start going when I'm 18, or what what is a good age to start meeting gay people?

- and yes I know I can't start going till I'm 18, well families can go in, like my friend and her mum went in our local one. But I wouldn't start going until 18+ Anyway but is 18 a bit young?

I love York , and indeed stayed there for almost a year . There are some great pubs and restaurants . You are right though you can't legally enter till at least age 18 and some pubs have a 21 rule nowadays and are quite keen to check out proof of identity 
My advice though is that gay clubs can be quite intimidating for a young guy who is new to that bar and will attract lots of attention , maybe not wanted . . Once you get to be old enough Leeds would probably be a better place to find other gay guys , but when you get to college or uni the opportunities get much wider . Once you have some gay friends that would  be a good time to visit gay clubs . In the meantime just look around school and try to join in as many activities , like sporting ones as that will open up other groups of guys where you might find another gay guy

Wow!  You have been on Y!A since you were 12!!!  I am sure that you will be the centre of attraction when you go into a gay bar in Leeds or York.... but not until you are 18!  have fun then!

You cant go to a gay bar (or any bar/pub) until you are of legal age in your country.
