Changing the timing belt on my minivan?
If I want to have my timing belt changed on my Honda Odyssey, will the water pump have to be changed also?

The timing belt is also known as cam belt. The timing belt is a part of an internal combustion that controls the timing of the engine's valves and increases its work efficiency. To increase the efficiency of your Honda there is the recommendation of changing the timing belt after 84 months or 105k miles. If the water pump of your Honda is working properly and its condition is well then there is no need to change it or if the water pump remains your Honda completely cool then save your money and don't change it.

It isn't mandatory but it is a very good idea. 90% of the labor to replace the pump is done when the timing belt is off and the part is not shockingly expensive. Insist on a new, not rebuilt, pump for the same reason.
If conventional green coolant is in the cooling system the pump is on its last legs, too. Conventional green coolant has high levels of silicate that attack the water pump seal. Older Honda coolant was green also, but a dark emerald green rather than the neon green of conventional green coolant. Later models use blue coolant.

Generally it is a good time to change the water pump as most of the labor is already paid for.
