curly tail dog holding tail down?
I have a terrier mix who usually holds her tail curled (like a northern breed dog such as a husky). Shortly after her bath yesterday she has been holding the tail down. The bath was cold water so I am wondering if it could be "cold tail" or "limber tail" which I read was common among sporting/hunting dogs. She doesn't seem to be in any pain and it is still able to curl when she uses the bathroom but then flops back down after a few seconds. I am certain it isn't behavioral like showing submissiveness because she has been in excited states since then which would in the past always produce a very curled tail. Now it just comes up about halfway or curls sideways and goes back down. Anal glands is a second guess I have because she was chewing herself a little but is also itchy all over (not uncommon for her). The more I look at her it doesn't appear to be anal gland related but if anyone has had experience with a dog holding its tail down due to anal gland irritation would love to know. Also, has anyone ever had a curly-tailed dog to get limber tail or exhibit this at all? Thanks for any ideas.
I'm pretty familiar when she holds her tail up and when she holds it down, and she isn't holding it up. Actually, she usually holds her tail up more often than not. The only time it is down is when she is eating, resting or nervous. As I mentioned, when she is in an excited state (i.e. playing, being dominant toward the other dogs) it is normally up, but now if it does make it up it falls right back down. Thanks for the play suggestion.

I have a Terrier mix too. A Yorkipoo. He has the same kind of tail. Sometimes he holds it down but when we play or when he goes potty, he carries it up. But he doesn't hold it up a lot of the time and he's very healthy and happy. Mostly his tail goes up when he want's to play. He holds it down when he is drinking water.
I don't think it's anything to do with anything you did to her. I don't think it's an anal gland problem either. My dog holds up his tail when his anal glands need to be expressed. He just drags his butt across the carpet and I know it's time to get them expressed.
I wouldn't worry about her tail if I were you. They use their tails as an expression. Like when they are in a playful mood or something. I don't think your dog has any problem. Just try it out. See if her tail goes up when you invite her to play.
I hope this helped
