Why is my dog afraid to go to my moms?

Question

I got my dog from a rescue when she was 3 in '05. She always enjoyed going with me to visit my mom. After a while my mom starting see a man (Gene) who eventually moved in with her. Now my dog is scared to go to her house. On our first visit after Gene moved in, he bent down to pet her and she peed on the floor (she has never done that). On our last visit, she didn't even want to get out of the car! When we are there, she will not leave my side and shakes almost uncontrollably. She is not afraid of men in general, she loves my husband. Any ideas?

Update:

The only thing I know for sure is that she was in a puppy mill (she is a full blooded fox terrier). I know she had a few litters there and was in a cage all of her life until she came to me. She had heart-worm and terrible ear mites when I got her. She has been happy and healthy since going through treatment.

Something went wrong when they were introduced. Not easy to know what. Try to meat your mom and Gene in a neutral place and go for a walk with them and your dog. After awhile let Gene hold the leash. Keep walking until the dog looks relaxed and does not care.

She could sense something about him that she doesn't like or frightens her. Do you know if your dog was abused before she was rescued? If she was, maybe this man reminds her of her old owner? it's hard to say. Try going for a walk with both Gene, yourself and your dog and see if your dog starts to calm down.

Dogs can sense when a person is up to no good. Maybe this Gene guy is up to no good. Or she is genuinely scared of him
