Bad things happen to people beyond their control. Job losses, health problems, accidents, natural and man-made disasters.

Systems have to be in place to help those who are in need. Do a few people take advantage of the system? Sure they do, but it is the rest we are concerned about.

I'm pretty sure it's not liberals who press for laws that make it harder to sue a doctor who left a sponge in you after an operation and to sue a company when they sell a product that makes you sick. Sounds like you have a problem with accountability. And to say there's no deadbeat republicans skipping on their hospital bills or collecting food stamps is hilarious. Typical neocon truthiness.

Factor in people like Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Paul Allen, and Micheal Bloomberg pledging to give away up to 99% of their money and who is more generous? Its not the guy who gives more to the Mormon church than he pays in taxes. Have you ever seen a Mormon soup kitchen? I haven't, but I know they own a lot of businesses that make them money. The Catholic church is the richest organization in the world, yet churches in poor neighborhoods were foreclosed on in record rates last year. You take the money you give to the nontaxable politically active religious institutions out of the equation and what is there left. David Koch gave 2 million to cancer, after he had cancer..

The first thing Steve Jobs did when he retook the helm of the worlds most valuable company was cease all charitable operations. The only money Apple ever donated under his leadership was political and aimed at killing same sex marriage.

You didn't say Democrat or Republican, you said Liberals and Conservatives. We're not talking about parties, we're talking about ideologies that define our views of this country. People make this mistake too often. You can be a liberal republican or a conservative democrat. Before the tea party began tugging the republican party to the extreme right it happened all the time.

Bill Gates will support any party that helps his business, but he is known to be fairly liberal. Scholarships for minorities, money for inner city schools, art programs for disadvantaged children, food and medicine in Africa.

Steve Jobs told the President that Unions are ruining the schools, donated money to defeat gay marriage, slammed America for having regulations, and admired Ayn Rand. That sounds fairly conservative to me.
