Selling your soul for fame in the music industry...?

What exactly does that mean? Is it signing a contract to a record label or something?

If it is a far more deeper meaning, then who suggests it to the celebrity, and how exactly does that happen?

Update:

I asked here because, I hear of people selling their soul to the devil in the music industry, but is that some kind of twisted metaphoric phrasing?

It means he or she gave up there morals (or what they really believe in) to be famous. Like, if a singer was really religious and didn't believe in being naked in public did a music video where they were naked, that would be an example of selling their soul for fame.

That saying started because of Robert Johnson, the famous Blues artist. He sings about "him and the Devil meeting at a crossroads", and legend says that you can sell your soul to the devil by a crossroad, and you will get 10 years of fame before dying. Of course, this is not a proven legend.

Just what it says. If you don't throw yourself into it heart, body and mind or some would say with your whole "soul" you are not going to make it. Ginger Rogers used to practice until her feet were bloody and then she would continue practicing. She was into it with her whole soul. She was sold lock stock and barrel with the cart and horse and tavern too. Anything short of such dedication gets to stand on the sidelines and watch the real "souls" work their little hearts out like devils. Don't kid yourself. People like that who are famous have worked very hard to get there. There is no easy way up.

its extra advantageous than signing a settlement! its giving them "checklist employer government" finished administration over your image and the music you're making! THEY permit you recognize WHAT SELLS. and you create songs around it. any music you're making that they think of will no longer sell? or be won properly with the help of the listeners? or consumers? wont see the sunshine of day. we could say justin bieber have been to darken his hair and initiate donning dark makeup and leather-based outfits and sing songs approximately death? and discomfort? and suffering? the checklist employer executives could abandon him! they could cancel his settlement and hang him out to dry!
