More supportive/less negative parenting is teh independent variable as tehre is no way that the childrens blood pressure can influence it. The dependent varialbe is the blood pressure and heart rates in children as that is affected by teh parenting.

The IV is parenting and DV is blood pressure and heart rates. You measure blood pressure and heart rate by manipulating the amount of parenting.
