mild symptoms of1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) dog bait poisoning ?

Is anybody aware of the symptoms in domestic dogs of mild poisoning by 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) wild dog bate? While camped in a wild area of the country (AU) recently, where 1080 is occasionally used, I observed one of my pups chewing on bleached bones in the area of the campsite, (which I later concluded were possibly the remains of a poisoned fox or dingo). Shortly after, she became sick with an occasional foam vomit accompanied by a “bloody” diarrhoea.

I am aware 1080 remains effective in the remains of poisoned animals as they decompose, however is anybody aware if the poison remains in the “bleached bones” of poisoned animals? A second dog in the camp was a mature dog which had been previously taught not to scavenge: She was unaffected. The affected pup was nursed back to good health over the two week period and survived.

There is NO MILD SYMPTOM WITH 1080!!!

    It is intended to KILL!!!

Get to the vet ASAP or you will have a DEAD DOG!!!

If your puppy survived, then thank your lucky stars as 1080 has a "kick on" affect. If a crow eats it and dies and then the dog or fox eats the dead crow - and they do then the 1080 will still be active and poison the dog or fox. This is why there are so many calls to have it's use stopped. It keeps on killing to the detriment of wildlife and pets that we want to keep alive and the animals that people want to kill like dingoes and foxes tend to grow wary of it and only take fresh kill that isn't poisoned.

I hope that this explains 1080 a bit better and you are more careful in future. Don't camp near 1080 poison sites.

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog. Read more here https://biturl.im/aU6Lu

The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don't achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren't putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.

The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.

Some dogs love to fetch, others love agility, and other dogs simply love obedience training, or swimming out into water and retrieve. At least to start with find out what your dogs love is and help them develop this, what I am saying is work with your dog. The other point to recognize is to make training enjoyable reward your dog.

As far as I can tell - there are no mild symptoms!!!

Lost our female Maremma dog last night.

She did make her way into the house prior to the symptoms began.

Suddenly, she was a mad dog. Running, screaming and shitting everywhere!

When trying to calm her down she managed to bite the both of us. My wife on the wrist and me on the temple while holding her close to me.

It was awful - screaming, convulsing, pawing, biting and breathing madly. She seemed to have no idea what was happening to her.

Finally we managed to get her into an enclosure to rush her to the vet, 20mins away.

On arrival it was clear that she was dead. The look on her face was that she died from extreme pain.

From the start of the symptoms to her death - no more that 15 mins.

Honestly, there is no hope once ingested.

Please, if you live in rural area be sure that farmers nearby alert you to their poisoning program so you can take appropriate measures for the security of your pets!!!
