integral of (e^x)/((e^2x)+1)

I need to understand the steps involved. First to explain gets best answer.

    u = e^(x)

    du = e^(x) * dx

    e^(x) * dx / (1 + e^(2x)) =>

    du / (1 + u^2)

    u = tan(t)

    du = sec(t)^2 * dt

    sec(t)^2 * dt / (1 + tan(t)^2) =>

    sec(t)^2 * dt / sec(t)^2 =>

    dt

    Integrate

    t + C

    u = tan(t)

    arctan(u) = t

    arctan(u) + C =>

    arctan(e^(x)) + C
