On what year will global low ping finally arrive?

For example, the ping from the Philippines all the way to Virginia, US will always be 50 ms or less.

When do you think that'll become a reality?

At the speed of light (almost 300,000 km/s), it would take 66 ms to travel 20,000km (half way around the earth at the equator), in "perfect" conditions. Add in network switches and routers, etc... and 50ms to any place half way around the earth is impossible...

Maybe if they drilled a pipe through the center of the earth and ran fiber through that?

Source(s): Backbone underwater cable connections already operate at the speed of light.
