What makes a musician "mainstream" to you?

Ive always wondered what yalls definitions of Mainstream & Underground was...

Mainstream to me means they an artist that gets played on the radio...

just wondering..

    Mainstream to me means that they are either played on the radio or else on a television music station. ( such as mtv or vh1)

    Record deal, maybe on a commercial or two. What people think when they hear rap. Eminem, Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Drake. People hate on them because underrated rappers don't get as much attention, and they give rap a bad name, which is kinda true.
