I heard one fundamentalist claim that the Catholic Church added the Deutrocanonical Books to the Bible during the Third Council of Carthage in 397 AD. But than again this same fundamentalist claimed that the earliest Scripture was the Codex Sinaiticus which is the Greek version of the Codex Vaticanus both of which contain the Deutrocanonical Books.

I think fundamentalist are poisoned against the Catholic Church without fully understanding why. The Catholic Church holds the Christian history, those who go up against the Catholic Church are also going up against Christian history.

The Protestants claim that the Jews rejected the books so they can not be part of scripture. However, as you point out, Jesus Himself taught from them, so then they become New Testament Scripture, which I find odd since they were old enough for Jesus to teach from.

Now I have a headache trying to explain that.

Researching the origins of Hanukkah I found the source for this Jewish feast in First Maccabees which was originally written in Hebrew and is usually dated c.100 B.C. It begins with the rebellion of Mattathias (c.167 B.C.) and ends with the murder of Simon (135 B.C.). The book relates the struggles of the Maccabees, led by Judas Maccabeus, against Antiochus IV

of Syria. Chanukah is a Hebrew word meaning “dedication” because this observance marks the rededication of the Jewish Temple after it had been desecrated by the Syrians in their invasion prior to Christ. The Macabee's rededicated the temple, made a new menorah restored it to its proper use (made holy). They found a vial with pure olive oil which was only enough for one day. It would take the priest 8 more days to make more oil, they went to light the menorah anyway. Instead of the oil lasting one day it lasted for 8 days. So this became the feast of lights.

Roman Catholic Bibles have several more books in the Old Testament than Protestant Bibles. These books are referred to as the Apocrypha or Deuterocanonical books. The word apocrypha means “hidden,” while the word deuterocanonical means “second canon.” The Apocrypha / Deuterocanonicals were written primarily in the time between the Old and New Testaments, as well as additions to the books of Esther and Daniel. The books are named: 1 Esdras, 2 Esdras, Tobit, Judith, Wisdom of Solomon, Ecclesiasticus, Baruch, the Letter of Jeremiah, Prayer of Manasseh, 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees.

The Apocrypha / Deuterocanonical books teach many things that are not true and are not historically accurate. While many Catholics accepted the Apocrypha / Deuterocanonicals previously, the Roman Catholic Church officially added the Apocrypha / Deuterocanonicals to their Bible at the Council of Trent in the mid 1500’s A.D., primarily in response to the Protestant Reformation. The Apocrypha / Deuterocanonicals support some of the things that the Roman Catholic Church believes and practices which are not in agreement with the Bible. Examples are praying for the dead, petitioning “saints” in Heaven for their prayers, worshipping angels, and “alms giving” atoning for sins. Some of what the Apocrypha / Deuterocanonicals say is true and correct. However, due to the historical and theological errors, the books must be viewed as fallible historical and religious documents, not as the inspired, authoritative Word of God.

Luther got into a tizzy because he thought Puragatory was in it. Then he wanted to take some of the New Testament out because it didn't agree with his theology.

The Protestants had to eliminate them to make themselves more comfortable rejected Roman Catholic teachings they wanted to reject. Then history gets twisted do that the Catholics "added" to Scripture........even though Jesus clearly taught from these books.

This suggests that fundies were alive during the time of Our Lord.

They had their own section on the mount where they put their fingers in their ears, and repeated, "La-la-la-la-la..."

Isn't it mostly just fundies who don't consider them scripture? I thought most Christians accepted them.
