Atheists: why don't you believe in God? Give proper explanations.?
I'm an atheist too, and I've seen a lot of questions like this one. And most of the answers that support atheism are absolute garbage. Downright daft. Note : please don't try to contradict the Bible. The bible was written by HUMAN BEINGS. And the Bible doesn't have to be remotely true for God to exist. "God" may not be good. "God" may not care about people. "God" may not want creatures to accept him. Please note, in this context, I am talking about GOd as a being in the sky. Because if I don't, then there are infinite interpretations to what "god" is. God may be the smallest particle in an atom, smaller than quarks. Basically, everything is made of that. That is everywhere. and that exists. So in this context : God = another complex being, but not the "god" of any specific religion. Because that's all myth and pretty much not true.
@ Vee : How do you know that "God" didn't intend for evolution to happen? Like, "hey, that's a smart monkey. Maybe I could experiment more," or something.
Look at JS and Splash Frog's answers : sure, life is about survival of the fittest, but who told you that God is good? Or evil? or anything? Maybe God is just a neutral being, who said, "let the fittest survive"
And lack of evidence. Sure. But let's say God = aliens. Is there concrete evidence of aliens existing? Nope. But there is a probability of them existing. THere are indicators. That ya, this moon of Jupiter, or this moon of Saturn, has liquid water under a sheet of ice, but those are only indicators, and no one really knows. but we haven't shunned the possibility of ET life, have we? And like some theists say, the world is an intelligent design. there is no way it can be random. Of course, it could be random. but then again, it might not. The perfection of nature is hard to ignore. A slight indicator of "God", according to theists.
@ Nameless : Good answer. Doesn't make a difference.
@ Sir Vegas : like I said before, God does not = bible. Creationism is not = God.
@ Vee : AGAIN. IF (a big if) god DOES exist, why can't it be behind evolution? I mean, AGAIN A HUNDRED TIMES : bible/ adam/creationism/etc/etc IS NOT = GOD. Science has proved that intelligent beings like us don't snap into existence. maybe "god" has the same idea. and I know this might sound weird. But science does not disprove GOd. Science disproves religious texts, superstition, and the GOD in the Bible, etc. Maybe "god" said, : Oh, hey, my program is working itself out very well. The laws of nature that i've made are great coz they're killing off the weakest organisms and pushing up the strong ones. And this little twit (micro-organism) here can probably somehow convert into a fish and a dino and etc etc. and maybe the monkey will grow brains.
And BTW

Even if some kind of a higher power or so called god existed, it wouldn't matter if I believed it or that I prayed to it. Because it doesn't affect anything.
Let's pretend that god exist, what's the difference? He doesn't do anything anyway...
I don't know why christians worship him, he is silent and he is cold.

God could not be the smartest particle. Otherwise there are at least 10^80 gods in this universe...everyone worship me and the septillion gods that I am!
God is a concept that I don't lend any credence to because it has been described in so many ways but never with any sort of demonstrable accuracy. Anyone can describe God however they want, but no one has ever been able to show that what they're talking about has any real-world implications. The vagueness of the concept in general, creating the universe, (how, by speaking it into existence? might as well punch or laugh it into existence) being able to do anything and everything, loving everyone, and knowing everything, just make it sound pretty childish. It just sounds far more like a primitive optimistic superstition than anything to do with reality. I mean, nothing in reality is infinitely anything. That's just silly. Same with Karma, another incoherent concept that assumes an absolute morality that the universe enforces upon people for things they did before they ever existed. Same with ghosts, communicating with dead ones, and many other superstitions.
It's also not my job to define God since it isn't something I actually believe in. Saying God could be this or that doesn't help anything. Unicorns could be that too after all.

Well, I'm not an atheist, but an agnostic, but I'd still like to answer.
I don't believe in God, because the Bible and the Church teaches us that God is an all-powerful being that is purely good and wishes for humanity to be as well. If he was that, then why don't he do anything about the sh*thole we call Earth? What about South Africa, which is a Catholic country, with its suffering inhabitants? They are starving and plagued with AIDS.
And what about giving actual, undeniable proof of his existence? Instead, he decides to plant evidence AGAINST his existence and against Creationism? I'm not saying that it exactly proves that he doesn't exist, but it sure helps people believe that.
And, well... evolution isn't really proof of him not existing. In fact, my father, who is a priest, my mother, who is also religious, and my father's parents, who are the most religious members of my family, believed in the Big Bang and Evolution. Just in a slightly different way than atheists: They believe that God made the Big Bang and controlled the evolution.
And before anyone come with the "He's just testing us!" argument... if he truly is all-knowing, then why would he need to test us?
*Edit* I know that. I'm just saying that God doesn't do what the Bible and the Church teach us.

I haven't believed in the stories from the bible since I was about 9 years old. They didn't make any sense to me then and they surely don't make any sense to me now. (I'm 63)
My attitude has always been that if there were a god/creator then he/she/it should be doing a much better job at caring for us-- the creations. There shouldn't be any storms or earthquakes or tsunamis or droughts/floods to effect the crops. Why would a creator make us and then abandon us? Makes no sense to me. As a child I had an ant farm; I didn't shake up the ant farm, I didn't let it get so dry the ants died, I didn't starve them.
I don't have to go around preaching there is no god. I know that it (a god) doesn't seem possible to me and I don't want it shoved down my throat by people who can't think for themselves.

I never claim that Gods don't exist, I only claim that I don't believe they do....
The reason I don't believe in gods/goddesses is the same reason I don't believe in Bigfoot, The Loch Ness Monster or Aliens on Mars. Lack of evidence.
I would accept the existence of a god like being, but until there is an ounce of evidence I can't believe it.
Also, for me to accept the existence of something it needs to be defined - you can't just say something has no definition, at that point it becomes pointless.
EDIT - as for probability, I accept that there is a chance of gods existing, in the same way that I accept there's a chance of the Loch Ness Monster existing, but I still don't believe that either exists.

I have never seen a concrete reason to believe in a god. I have also never heard even a concrete definition of what a god is and why that god would even care if we worshiped him or a giant table. The idea just doesn't carry any water for me. I know that that sounds too simple, but for me, it is a simple question.

There is no evidence for the existence of god. Just about everything can be explained naturally now when the ignorant sand dwellers of the time used the god of the gaps theory to explain everything. If there is proof someday that a god exists, I would recognize his/her presence. It surely isn't any of the supposed gods that are found in any of the abrahamic religions.

Lack of any credible evidence as well as the problems of evil and the riddle known as why call him God all point to the concept of God as being illogical and flawed.
- ?Lv 59 years ago
You need to give me a specific definition for me to give a specific reason for not believing in that particular God. As a general rule though it is due to lack of evidence.

Most of the answers I see to this question say there is no evidence or reason to believe, what's garbage about that answer?
Edit @ Vee - How does evolution disprove god? Are you aware there is more than just the bible account of god?
