I say gerbils are better! They are more sociable and much more friendlier then a robo. Keep in mind, gerbils need 5-6 inches of bedding and shouldn't be put in a ball. Gerbils should also be kept in pairs at all times (unless fighting) and be kept in a 20 gallon glass aquarium. No wire cages because the pan is usually not deep enough and you will have a mess of bedding outside of your cage because of their burrowing needs. No plastic because they are HUGE chewers and will chew any plastic so might escape a plastic cage. You can't have any plastic toys in their cage also, all wood. Even the hideaway. Make sure it has wooden pegs and not nails holding it together. If you can't provide this stuff for the gerbils, get the hamsters. Gerbils aren't nocturnal, which is great if you go to sleep early at night. They take naps throughout the day and night but will be up a big chunk of the day time. Gerbils are much cleaner then hamsters, and you can go up to two weeks without cleaning their cage because since they are desert animals, they naturally drink and eat less so that means less urine and feces. Which means less cleaning and a lot less smell.
You don't need two robo hamsters and there is a chance they could fight later in life. You can keep them in a smaller plastic/wire cage. They will bite a bunch more then gerbils, especially before taming is over. They can be put in a ball with no issues, they are a bit meaner and less friendly then gerbils. They are sometimes called the 'look but don't touch' pet because they don't really like being held and will most likely run from your hand. hamsters are harder to wake and might bite you if you wake them up too fast.

Well if you're going to go for a gerbil, you should get two.
Gerbils are social animals and should be kept in pairs. In pairs they are happier and healthier. They are more active, more friendly and live longer lives. It's unhealthy for a gerbil to be kept alone as they can get lonely, some have even died of loneliness. So please bare this in mind. Just because your friend only has one gerbil, doesn't mean its right - they should really be in pairs. Keeping a gerbil alone can be cruel.
If you can only afford one pet, go with the hamster. They are less social and happier living alone.
Personally I prefer gerbils, however they cost more money. They need to be in a much bigger cage with a deep base, because they burrow. However they do smell less than hamsters!

dont get a robo dwarf, i have one,his name is simon C: .but they are so hard to tame!!! i took me about a yearuntill i was able to carry him around. plus they areunbelievablyy fast so idon'tt think its a good starter pet. on the other handgarblel biteallott but you can train them not to, plusthey'ree super cute!!XDalso all pets have to be fed and watered everyday, besides some reptiles.
so i would say gerbil or just a regular hampster !
good luck on the new pet!!

Everyone is going to HATE me for this but I'd say none, I'd say get a dog. When I was 11-13 I had hamsters and I dropped them all, I WAS NOT READY FOR ONE. Now that I'm 15 I have guinea pigs and I have not dropped them once. Now I know I'm not you, but I've also done research and a lot of it says not to give younger kids small pets.
Though I like the fact that you've done research, just please don't buy one then just get rid of it once you get bored of it.
Hamsters are small, smelly and fast. They die easily and its very upsetting, if I could go back in time, I would have left those hamsters at the pet store, and just stuck with my dog.
ALSO please rescue a hamster, please.

It seems to me like you are leaning towards the gerbil. Plus, you had a dream about owning one. It could be fate. Sometimes our dreams are trying to tell us things! Your dream is telling you to get the gerbil! :] Gerbils are awesome anyways!

Before deciding to introduce a robo dwarf hamster in to your life, please consider:
-they are very fast. They do not naturally enjoy being held.
-they are very active during the night, meaning you are going to hear them digging around and spinning on their wheels constantly.
-they love to try to escape from their cage. If you get a wired cage and they do escape, they are extremely difficult to catch again.
