Can I use my dead dad on my FAFSA?

I have a mom who I live with but she doesn't provide more than 50% of my support, but she does claim me as a dependent on her taxes. My dad died January 8th, can I use his info on the parent portion for the FAFSA even though I do have a living parent who did file a return? Would putting him down make my EFC lower or even $0?

Update:

Actually Kyle Busch is an 尻 ™, no actually he wouldn't be ashamed. Mis-representing facts to get something from someone was kind of his thing. But thanks so being concerned about my morals.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.

When it comes to the FAFSA, you cannot use your dad's information. The determination is made on the basis of your situation on the day you complete the FAFSA. Even though your dad may have supported you in the past, he is no longer able to do that, so your mom is your custodial parent and you are now considered to be her dependent for purposes of the FAFSA. This would be true even if you weren't living with her, or she provided no support or didn't claim you on her return.

    Hope that helps.

FASFA sucks dick they screwed up with me too. no person instructed my dad and mom they had to document separatley with the aid of fact there separated and that they took money removed from me. meanwhile my dad and mom fairly are separated and now im caught such as you. At my college even with the shown fact that i had till august 1st to get all of the fasfa information carried out so if u have unresolved subjects which of course you do, i might attempt speaking on your college returned. My college helped me as much as they could with making specific each thing become splendid and ur nevertheless to youthful to appreciate those issues so there must be some way they could help. you do not have any parent now?

No, you have to use the parent you live with

If you use anyone other than the parent you live with, then FAFSA will catch it & you will charged with attempt to Fraud the Federal Government

if you read FAFSA it clearly asks you for the tax info of the parent you lived with the most

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I can't even imagine that kind of pain. I think that there might be a choice on there if he's deceased. You could always call them & ask. I'm sure you'd get more money if they know he's alive, because you have less financial support then.
