My hair is SOO dry! Help!?

Ok, I am 1/2 French and 1/2 Italian, 30-years-old, live in Florida (so very humid, lots of sun), and I never dye my hair -if this helps give you an idea of the conditions for my hair.

It is very thick and very frizzy and dry. It is naturally wavy.

I absolutely loathe my hair because there is NOTHING I have found to just make it smoother and more nourished.

It has always been this way. I don't understand.

I wash it every 3 days (so not too often, which I know can be drying.)

I never go to the beach (salt damage) or the pool (chlorine damage.)

I never ever dye my hair.

I don't use a rough brush or hair ties with metal parts.

I do straighten it but not too often (maybe once a week when I'm on a straight-hair kick) and I use the Maxiglide (which releases steam [moisture] and doesn't clamp the hair between 2 metal irons.)

I moisturize it with deep conditioner every time.

And the only thing I put it in is Fruictis leave-in conditioner after washing it.

I don't use gel, spray... anything else but the leave-in.

I feel like I'm not really breaking any kind of cardinal rule when it comes to hair care, so what is it?! I don't get it! I could definitely be abusing it but I'm really not!

The only reason I straighten it at all is because when I leave it be it is AWFUL!!!!! It's a BALL or frizz, I'm so sick of feeling embarrassed and ugly.

On rare occasions my hair naturally curls into beautiful, not-so-frizzy curls and it looks beautiful; but the rest of the time like I said, it's poofy, heavy, thick, frizzy, dry and basically can't make up its mind as to what shape it will take (I'm gonna be wavy.. no wait I'm gonna straighten for a while.. now curl.. go right, sharp left..) It looks like crap.

Is there ANYTHING I can do?!

I feel like at 30 I deserve to finally feel good in my skin and I've tried everything I could think of, I want to figure it out already.

My hairdresser doesn't seem to have any advise either.

I have OBSESSED with the Kardashian hair; soo silky and beautiful.

Now granted, they probably get it professionally done, but if you look at old pictures their hair was already beautiful.

What the heck do they do to it!! I'm dying to know!

(And while we're at it, how do they get those beautiful waves?)

Is there anything I can eat to make it better? Any supplements I can take? Any awesome hair products/routine that might help?

I love my hair long, but it just looks so bad I just cut it, hoping to get rid of anything unhealthy. Well a week later it's back to dry dry dry and frizzy.

I don't get any split ends, it's just very dry.

Any suggestions??? Thank you!

Update:

Hi, a few added details:

- I grew up in France (different weather than FL, very mild, so harsh cold or heat) but my hair was already this way.

- My skin doesn't make me very happy either.. medium-to-oily, I still break out constantly. I know that hair, skin, and nails are basically the same thing, so this info might help.

- I never blow-dry it.

- I eat every 3 hours (need to for health reasons) whether it's a meal or a healthy snack.

I do eat -relatively- healthy. What I mean by that is I basically NEVER eat any of that bad stuff (fast food, soda, candy, cookies, cakes, chips, greasy stuff...) but I definitely need to eat more of the GOOD stuff. I eat a couple of bananas a day along with cashews, almonds, blueberries and cranberries, but that's my snack. I'm always clueless about what to make for lunch and dinner, so it's probably not healthy enough.

- Thanks V for the suggestions but I can't wait more than 3 days to wash it because then it becomes super g

Update 2:

- Thanks V for the suggestions but I can't wait more than 3 days to wash it because then it becomes super greasy and gross.

- Horsegurl thank you also. I drink a LOT of water, it's basically all I drink all day long. I don't drink soda, RARELY drink alcohol and when I do it's like, 1 beer. I eat healthy, exercise, sleep at least 8 hours... I have a pretty healthy lifestyle.

I don't really put it up in a pony tail ever. I do wear a loose bun pretty often, but that's because it's frizzy lol. But it's very loose and I just clip it.

I get plenty of sun in Florida too lol.

I do already take vitamin D (and other multivitamins/supplements)

I however didn't know about the coconut oil, I'll try that!! Thank you!

Sooperturtle thank you!! Wonderful suggestions I will definitely try them!

- Sur la Mer (are you French?! Me too! :) ) I am not a vegan. I decried my eating habits a few paragraphs earlier.. relatively healthy but with room for improvement.

Update 3:

- Sur la Mer (are you French?! Me too! :) ) I am not a vegan. I decried my eating habits a few paragraphs earlier.. relatively healthy but with room for improvement.

I don't really have a hair care routine, but I decried it in my original post. I use deep conditioning as conditioner, leave-in-conditioner after, let air dry. I don't use any products in it at all.

I do unfortunately live in Florida, so there isn't much I can do about sun exposure. I don't however add to it because I don't go to the pool/beach or do anything outside (WAY too hot to bear.)

I do use hot water when I wash it, I'll try just warm next time.

I don't do any of the other stuff you mentioned (over brushing, dying, using products...)

I don't know how the water is in Florida though (soft or not.)

- Betsy and Monique thank you! I'll try all that!

Thank you all for your help! I'm excited to start trying! :)

Good healthy hair comes from: your good genes (the kardashians are Iranians and have good genes), good hair care & all the healthy foods you eat from Mother Nature. If you've been watching, they ARE ALWAYS eating salads, fruits & veggies. Start by eating 3-8 servings daily!

If you've straightened your hair in the past, it may grow slowly or none at all.

    Google: "Foods for Healthy Hair"

Growing healthy hair doesn't come from a bottle or pills and hair products do not speed hair growth. Any hair oil, is another form to keep hair moisturized, nothing more. If you're in HS, your hair & nails should be growing normally, and as healthily as possible, since you're eating healthy foods. But when hair isn't growing as fast, it's because they've been tampered with: chemicals, hair straightening, etc. . .

Their hair are also STRINGY & greasy, if my hair looks like that I'd be washing it everyday! My hair is silky, shiny, soft & smooth. I have no idea how you take care of your hair, nor do we all have the same genes, and I don't know if you're a vegan or NOT.

Towel dry, even blow dry it 75% dried if your hair is thick, braid your hair in several sections. In the morning, take the braids out, finger comb & you're good to go. Should last for days or until your next shampoo. If you want tighter curls, more sections for each braids. If you want looser curls, less sections, but won't last as long, depending on the weather.

If you want curls at the ends, too, instead of stick straight, curl the ends with plastic curler, support with clips on each side (4 clips total for each curler), and use rubber bands to attach to each V-sides, like perming rods. That way they will stay put when you sleep.

Eliminate the CAUSES for DRY HAIR FOREVER

    1. Hair gets very dry from too much sun exposure, same with the skin.

    2. Shampooing in Hot water & chlorine in the pool causes the skin to get 'dishpan' hands look, so does the hair. So use warm water.

    3. Blow drying too long. If you need to blow dry, towel dry first air dry some, then blow dry for 5 mins.

    4. Don't use products containing alcohol. Gel has alcohol, so does hair spray. Add a small dollop (size of a quarter) of gel to keep hair from frizzing.

    5. Perming, relaxing & dyeing all causes hair feeling like hay. Get frequent trims, allowing new growth to take over.

    6. Don't shampoo often. Washing less often, builds the natural oil your hair needs, to get them smoother, shinier, silkier, softer. Man-made products are just temporary, until you wash them again, and at the same time washing off the natural oil your hair NEEDS. Hair product just absorbs on your hair if they're dry, like a sponge.

    7. Overbrushing. Avoid too much brushing or styling in the winter. Harsh winter months can leave your hair dry, dull, brittle, or frizzy.

    DOs:

    1. Cover your hair with a scarf or hat when you go outside to prevent sunburned even during winter.

    2. At the end of washing your hair, rinse it thoroughly with cold water. This locks in moisture, according to Hair Care Guide.com, and gives your hair extra shine.

    3. Always dry your hair thoroughly before you go outside, since damp hair can freeze and break.

Source(s): 5 decades of good hair care but mine is down to my knees, so I must be doing something BETTER than the Kardashians, because all I use is a bottle of over the counter shampoo - no conditioner for 16 years. We also have soft water, and I don't visit the salon unless I get 4" cut off, I do all my styles, and makeup, unlike them.

I have the PERFECT thing for you. I really do.

Go get some fairly decent quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO: Oil from the first pressings from the olives) Mix one part Honey with 2 parts oil, or just use oil. Warm it a little and coast your hair with it. Tie it up and leave it for 10 minutes and rinse out. Do as needed!

Mix 1 part of the oil, 1 part honey and 1 part sugar/salt for a wonderful body scrub. Or use the oil/honey alone. Honey makes you glow. Oil hydrates. Sugar/salt removes dead skin.

I use fine sugar for my face and coarse/brown sugar for my body.

You can *** essential oils to any of these for a scent and they have different effects. You can look them up or ask a clerk at your local organics store.

    Try Kelp vitamins.

    Eat Healthy...

I only wash my roots and my whole heat once a week with shampoo because it does dry your hair out.

As for the waves... there are so many ways. Try using a round brush and a hair dryer. Topstyler doesn't damage your hair and it does take some practice but you can get beautiful waves/curls with no damage, in little time and they last a really long time without any styling product.

This I think would be better than any product you could buy. It's natural and doesn't coat your hair with silicone.

Anyways I truly believe that any woman at any age should feel beautiful inside and out. I hope this helps your hair, I think it will.

Good luck and I wish you all the best.

    1) Take folic acid supplements

    2) Eat more avocados and healthy fats like that

    3) Buy a container of coconut oil and use it like a hot oil treatment once a week (the only oil proven to actually penetrate the hair shaft and heal from the inside out)

    4) Give yourself head massages

    5) Stop straightening at all

Your hair should show a lot of improvement over 1 months time. Hope this helped!

mine is exactly the same! but much better now. 1) NEVER use pantene or herbal essences shampoos. you can look this up on yahoo answers if you want to know why. 2) don't tie up your hair often 3) drink plenty of water 4) eat healthy, no alcohol. 5) get some sun. 6) !!!COCONUT OIL!!! it is amazing. amazing. amazing. put it on the ends of your hair every day/night. 7) take vitamin b

Source(s): this is what i do, my hair went from dry and split(had to trim off the ends frequently) to long, shiny healthy hair.

I recommend you a good product that can help you with that, it's Pro Naturals Moroccan Argan Oil, it helps strengthen the hair that's prone to breakage, smoothes the hair and form a protective mist on surface against heat damage, reduces Frizz and helps prevent further damage, leaves hair healthy, shiny and resilient and provides heat protection. Check it out at http://www.safrons.com/pro-naturals-moroccan-oil-h... . Hope it helps and good luck.

instead of washing it every 3 days try washing it once a week because shampoo dries your har out if you use it to often
