Why do Americans call American football football?!?
It's crazy they don't use their feet why don't they just call it American rugby (even though they wear pads). And why do they call real football played with the foot!! Soccer. I don't know why the Americans have to change every thing us British invent. I mean we did kinda founder them!
We call it American football
I do also think soccer/football is a bad sport though

google is really a simple tool to use.
anyways, im bored and i dont feel like being a total douche by ranting:
football is not a sport. get that out of your head. football is a general name of a set of sports, that have specific characteristics that make it in the category football. for an analogy, you are in the football (american section), that is in a broader category, the sports section. the sports section deals with different sports. football sports have characteristics such as having posts, off side rules, 11-15 players on a field at a time per team, multiple ways of scoring (soccer being the exception) and others. now, as i have just explained, football is a generic term. american football is called so because its a version of football (aka, a code) based in american. other codes include rugby league football, rugby union football, soccer, gaelic, canadian, aussie rules and lesser known codes. similar to other sports, baseball and cricket are stick and ball or safe haven sports. hockey and lacrosse are in their own category and so on.
now, soccer as we formally call it is called association football. it combines cambridge and some other place (i forget and dont feel like looking it up). the term is british. so dont act like we came up with it. as you can imagine, it is tedious to spell so they took "soc" in association and added the suffix "cer". and yes, they did it to avoid calling it "asser" or some other name that would leave it to scrutiny and ridicule.
the term football in itself has nothing to do with your feet. in fact, only 2 main codes (gaelic and soccer) use a round ball. and the only code that doesnt allow the use of their hands is soccer. the term football in itself pertaining to a sport in a country is generally given to the most popular code in that country. so americans have american football so its known as simply football. australia has aussie rules and thats just called football there. england and most of the worlds most popular code is association and thats simply called football for them although until the last 60 or so years, it was almost unanimously known as soccer, not football.
ignorance is stupid. not narking on you or anything (mainly the people who decided to not answer the question and bash others), pick up a book or read something informational once in a while. maybe youll learn something and not look like an idiot. im smart (148 iq), but i dont consider myself smart by any stretch (trust me), but really, its not rocket science to read. and if you dont know about a sport or the answer, dont comment and learn to do things for yourself.

Actually, soccer is a very strategic game, at least as much so as American Football. You can't just run across the pitch alone towards the goal and shoot, that's offsites. You have to be able to move your team forward together, passing the ball from one player to another, until a player can find a space through the enemy's defences and kick the ball into the goal. Soccer is a strategic, fast-paced game. At times it can be boring, but with good players, it can turn from boring into extremely fascinating and interesting in a nanosecond.

Americans are dumb. They don't have lorries, a bonnet is a hat for children, they don't have a king or queen, a boot is a type of foot covering, they don't have water closets, and when the worlds most popular game started to be played there, they called it soccer because the name football had already been taken. And someday they will get FIFA changed to FISA.

We don't call American football, football. We call football, football. It's not American rugby because we don't huddle together hugging each other and pass the ball to one another between our legs. Football is a game of chess played out on a beautifully manicured hunk of grass, or grass like field-turf. It is a strategic, war like game. Where the air and ground attack work as one to take territory until the ultimate goal is achieved. Victory. Rugby is a group of baboons clawing at a ball until it squirts out and one baboon runs with it then gets swallowed up by the group again. Football is a dance, rugby is a bar fight on grass with spectators. And, you call it "American football" because we wont play with you. We will let you watch, but your not invited to participate. Notice I haven't even mentioned soccer, called soccer. Thats because its that important, or should i say dull. Like you Brits. And if you Brits wanna get technical you didn't invent soccer, you stole it from the Mayans, a North American civilization, and changed the concept a little. I can't think of one thing a Brit invented that had any meaning since the "loo", coincidence?. And you Brits didn't "founder", as you so elegantly put it, us. We decided we had enough of your up tight snooty ways and made this place better by booting y'all from it.

It does use feet when we punt and we call it football because it's been called that and America has to be different than the whole world and call futbol soccer and leave football as football haha just different terms or words to call it no big deal

Because as you can see from your answers, they're not too clever, most didn't even understand what you were asking. They do get grumpy if you call American football, Padded Rugby though (even though that's what it is)
Also whoever is on about teeth, how many REAL British people have you seen, fair enough maybe in the 1800s we didn't have good teeth, but now we have all kinds of toothpaste, toothbrushes etc, I mean look at Simon Cowells teeth, he's British! Then again Ricky Gervais lets us down on that one!
