Sisters, could you please answer this question for me?
Salam,
This is quite personal, but here goes.
I'm a Muslim, and I want to pray, but I'm not sure if I finished my period yet. I only started a few months ago, so obviously my period will be irregular. Now, this month, i started my period on June 4th at around Zuhr time and I though it ended on 7th June Asr time. When I did ghusl and prayed Asr, I found that after, my period started again. Then it didn't come on the 8th (although there was little brown stuff) and today, on the 9th June I washed my hair again to do ghusl (because I thought my period ended) now, when I wanted to go to pray the Ast, I found a little but of really really light brown stuff, could this STILL be my period? My mum says that if it's after 5 days, then no, but because this is my 5th day (or 6th if you count 4th June as being one day) I'm not sure if I'm still on or not.
Could you please help me? Thanks :)

The light brown stuff is a sign that it is soon going to end. Your mum is wrong here. Currently you are impure, but I guess it'll end by tomorrow. Wait a little when you think it ended, and you'll know.

Periods and their lengths differ in different women. If they are between 3-10 days long, then you shouldn't preform your prayers.
If they are shorter than 3 complete days or longer than 10 complete days, then it will count as Mustahadha which has it's special rules (you should pray but you should preform a new ghusl/wudu for each prayer even if you still have your previous ghusl/wudu depending on the amount of discharge).
The little brown stuff and the light brown stuff still counts as your periods if it's between 3-10 days.
So basically, yes, this is still your periods.
(And your mother's information isn't quite complete on this issue, probably because it's what's normal in her family, but I personally know ladies who's periods are 10 days long).
_____
To all those who say "A woman can't pray in her periods?????!!!", I must say that yes, she can! She can call on Allah, pray to Him (praise Him), ask Him for whatever she wants, etc. she only isn't required to perform the mandatory daily prayers which Muslims generally perform.

it's period is upto 10 days. If you still spot after 10 then you can pray cuz it's pathological. But you'll do the ghusl and certain other requirements like refresh your ablution for every fard prayer etc

It's goes from 5 to 8 days. Your mum is mistaken.
And since you just started, it surely is irregular. It will take couple of months for you to keep track of how many days your period take.
As for your prayer, It was said that a woman is unclean and unfit to pray until her period is properly stopped before she does ghusl. The "brown stuff" mark its ending.
If I'm wrong about the judgment, then I'm sure others will correct me.

There is absolutely no set amount of days for a girl to have her period. 5 might be average, but some can have it for only 2 days or for 10 days. You will learn your own cycle in time. Your "god" should have been smart enough to know this and not cause so much confusion for girls.
Light brown discharge is probably just old blood. It can happen at the beginning and/or end of your period. It can also occur when you ovulate, around 2 weeks after you start your period. That's all normal.
Just wash and pray. God doesn't care. He really doesn't. He loves you and wants you to know Him, talk to Him - any time you want and in any language. Wouldn't you rather have someone talk to you because they want to and not because they were forced to?

im sorry, but i really dont understand why you cant do these things when you're on your period, but anyway. When you first start your period, it will
be extremly light and exactly how you described
It could last 2 days or even more than a week.
Your mother was wrong when she said they
lasted for 5 days because no woman is the same,
so how can the're periods be? I dont know if you take sex-ed classes in school but you're at the
age when you need to learn these things. Dont worry, in about a year periods become regular and then you will be able to understand your body more.

WHAT do you think is going to happen to you if you pray when you are having a period then. A bolt of lightening striking you down or something?. What a religion. Cant do this that or the other. Think for your self because God will not throw one whatever time of the month it is!

the little brown stuffs is just the end of your period, so by tomorrow it will probably be completely gone. as for the period only lasting for 5 days, i've known girls whose periods have lasted for at least a week sometimes up to 10 days. everyone's is different, so you'll just have to see what happens as your period gets more regular.

It is still your period, do ghusl when it gets back to your normal fluid, when it gets clear or creamy white.

As long as its not red then you can make salat just do ghusl before you pray. You are most likely just spotting.
