Are SRAM and Shimano shifters and brakesets interchangeable?

SRAM Force, Rival or Red shifters with105, Ultegra or Dura-Ace brakes, or vice versa?

I bought a new frame and want to start aquiring components. I haven't decided which shifters and drivetrain components to go with, but I found a deal on some brakesets to get me started.

You can use just about any brake with any shifter, unless you are thinking Campagnolo. When you start going down range, Shimano Tiagra or lower, is when things get a little dicey. They'll still work but the pull is a little goofy.

I was a Shimano user and did not consider I would favor SRAM shifters. Now i will not go back to Shimano...Ever (on my mountain bike). I just like the thumb most effective transferring and find it a greater lifestyles. On my road Bike, i use Shimano (Shimano one zero five is adequate for my street existence).
