Should the All Star game be banned if?
If fans keep making such stupid choices!?!? There is no reason that the AL starting first baseman should be Prince Fielder, Paul Konerko is the best 1B in the game right now, and he's third behind Fielder and Teixeira (who's hitting like 2 bucks and some change.) And Nelson Cruz should not be in the starting outfield, look at the year Adam Jones is having. Why is Lance Berkman even getting votes for NL first baseman? He's not even played fifteen games this year, the NL 1B All Stars should be Freeman and Votto. And in the outfield in the National League, Martin Prado isn't even in the top-15 in voting. He's 6th in the league in hitting and has the fifth most hits among all NL outfielders. And there are tons more examples of players who should not be all stars, like why is Jason Kipnis not in the top five at second basemen? And now that idiot Ken Rosenthal wants to claim Bryce Harper should be an all star? What should MLB do if we have another popularity contest this year instead of an all star game?

No, the game doesn't need to be banned if MLB reduces the influence fans have in picking the starting players. This is what happens when fans are allowed (and even encouoraged) to stuff the ballot box. It turns into a popularity contest. Somehow the NFL, NHL and NBA are able to select their All Star Game players without controversy.
Let the fans continue to vote and add the 750 players in MLB into the voting mix. Fans votes can be reduced to 25% of the total and players are 75%. But nothing like this will happen because Herr Selig wants the fans to participate and the ASG to count for World Series home field advantage.
Pretty soon there will be interleague games all season....oh, yeh, that's happening in 2013!

This has been going on for over 50 years ever since the fans got a chance to vote.
There's still a lot of time for the voting to change before the starters are announced. A lot can happen before then.
The game is for the fans so it basically is a popularity constest. If more fans want to see Prince Fielder play then it's hard to stop them.
That's why the manager gets to pick the reserves. To make up for bad choices by the fans. Guys like Kornerko, Jason Kipnis and Jones will be on the team.
You must be a Braves fan because Freeman should not be on the NL team at 1B. One could argue he's the 6th best first baseman in the league.
Joey Votto - 10 HR, 38 RBI, .355 BA
Brian LaHair - 12 HR, 25 RBI, .310 BA (somebody from the Cubs has to make it)
Carlos Lee - 4 HR, 23 RBI, .297 BA
Paul Goldschmidt - 8 HR, 26 RBI, .293 BA
Adam LaRoche - 10 HR, 40 RBI, .258 BA
Freddie Freeman - 8 HR, 37 RBI, .259 BA

Others have the answer right, but I wanted to answer one part of your question about Nelson Cruz. There are MANY fans who vote that are just people who watch the playoffs and a few games during the season, and don't really keep up during the year. Remember the ALCS last year when Cruz went on a crazy home run binge? That's probably why Cruz is (right now) listed as a starting outfielder.

All Star Game: an exhibition game played by a sport's stars.
Star: a very popular player.
Yeah, what are people thinking?!

Yeah, take your opinions to the grave. It's apparent that you're the only one that thinks this way, because apparently millions of other people disagree with you.

It's a silly exhibition game.
Answer these questions, perhaps.
1. What is wrong with "stupid" (your term) choices?
2. What exactly renders a choice "stupid"?
3. How should All-Star votes be cast? (Hint: there is no one right way. There is no right way, period.)
