senior citizens.. I have many natural teeth left that are hurting and?
needing lots of expensivee and time consuming dental work , root canals, etc. How have you coped with this???? everyone tells me dont get dentures they are never like your own teeth, nothing but problems, etc... but would you invest time, pain, stress, etc in trying to keep your natural teeth if a senior citizen??? Not to mention the cost involved, and the discomfort to old muscles and bones from sitting so long in that uncomfortable dentist chair. Thanks for any opinions you have...God bless...

I'm sorry to hear that Valerie.
I don't know how bad your teeth are but yes I have all my own teeth and when they play me up I use Colgate Pro Active. It's very good at instantly stopping any minor discomfort.
But you know a lot of these pastes only hide the deep seated issues so if and when you can afford it do go and get them professionally checked out. My very best wishes to you as I know it can be awful.

A well fitting set of dentures is a lot better than wasting money on teeth that maybe saved for another 3 years before they have to come out anyway.
A dentist will tell you different because after you have dentures they have lost a patient $$$$
I have a good set of upper dentures and so,so lowers. But I am so used to them that I sometimes forget to take them out at night.
Depending on how good your dentures fit, you may have some discomfort eating for a few month , but don't give up !!!
Now I have no pain , no dentist visits and sparkling clean, pretty, teeth. No yucky decay either , I brush my teeth with antibacterial soap and gargle and you can't find a cleaner mouth.
I do not use adhesives so every time I eat something I pop them out and rinse them..They are sort of like mouth guards .
Mine were about $ 1000 plus extractions which do not hurt, unless you have an abscess,
I have no problem with that silly stigma attached to dentures , people wear glasses and hearing aids , why not some nice new teeth. ;-)

i'm 70 and I will keep my own teeth at all cost. This past year I have had to pay for a lot of my tooth care myself and I have a dentist that reduced my cost after I no longer had insurance and also lets me make payments at no interest cost. And he does the most beautiful work too.
Sounds like you have not been to a dentist recently. The chair is heated and has massage and they give you dark glasses to wear so the light is not in your eyes and a blanket if you are cold and a neck pillow if you don't fit the chair just right. I use all the above. Sometimes I use a jaw brace so holding my mouth does not get tired.
I can nearly fall asleep but I know I snore so try never to do that.
Look around and find a nice up to date dentist.
Also you may want to try and see if you have a University of Dentistry near. They usually charge about a 10th of what a dentist on the outside would charge.

If I had the money to go to a dentist and get them all pulled and be fitted for dentures, I would do it in a heartbeat. My teeth are so bad. They very rarely hurt, but they are ugly and broken. I take two Benedryl (the generic kind) every day just in case an infection should start and they might swell. The only way Medicare will pay for the surgery itself is if I can find an oral surgeon who is also an MD. I wouldn't mind the cost of the dentures and could probably swing it. I don't understand why you would feel this way, but I thought I'd add my two cents worth, anyway. Total cost for mine would be about $5000, which I can't afford, no way on this green earth. BTW, my husband doesn't have a tooth in his head - he does have dentures but doesn't wear them. He wears a huge mustache so it's hard to tell. He eats anything. including steak. I have never found a dentist's chair uncomfortable and if if you get the nitrous oxide, you don't really care.

I did what I could to save my teeth. I first had them crowned when I had alot of gum
recession causing pain. Then over the years, I got infections of the gums or root
canals. I had several teeth pulled, and finally all of the bottm teeth were pulled. Now
I'm down to a handful and I had a couple more teeth pulled and an infection remedied.
Not two more teeth are hurting. And I know it's only time before those also, have to
be removed. So it doesn't matter how well I take care of my teeth, infections are im-
pending. Especially due to my diabetes. I can't ward off infections well.

oh, please get this taken care of soon!!!.... I haven't had my own teeth since I was thirty.... and I didn't have the money or insurance then either... so I went to a dental school, where they took 'em all out and gave me dentures to wear that same day.... it wasn't easy, but it was a good choice for me.... the poisons from my rotting teeth had affected my health to where I weighed about 80 lbs when I should have been closer to 120.... after the teeth were out, I got much better and was thrilled to be without tooth aches!!!.... there's no good reason to try to keep your own teeth when the cosmetic dentists are trying to take all your money!!!... get rid of the teeth and all you'll pay for after that are a new set of dentures if you need them!!!.... I had one set for 26 years.... wonder how much I saved in that time?....
I really hope you will get rid of what is causing you pain... life is so much better without it.....

I think you have a million excuses which brought you to this point in the first place. Check your yellow pages for a dentist who is more than happy to take in new patients-even those who haven't been to a dentist in years-there are millions of people like that.
The chairs are beyond comfortable, the dentists and assistants are extremely gentle and kind. The new numbing agents make it much more painless than your teeth are now. Tell them you are nervous and afraid of dentists. They'll take good care of you.
There are payment plans where you can pay over time. Bad teeth contribute to all sorts of maladies including heart disease. Don't wait one more day.

In the U.K. those things are extremely rare and not as extreme as you experience in the U.S. and elsewhere. When we do have floods they tend to be unexpected and no one has planned for them. People have been drowned at such times whilst many lose their homes and possessions but not on the scale you have. We have small earthquakes now and again which cause some damage but, again, mild in comparison with other parts of the world. We've had hurricanes which have brought down many trees and power lines and people are occasionally killed when this happens. Houses are damaged and it is often through that damage (chimneys falling into the street and branches falling on to cars etc) that people are killed or seriously hurt. I am amazed at the resilience of those who live in countries which frequently suffer such things and wish that we, here, could do more for you than sent some relief money but we are too far away to do more than that. I truly hope that you do not need those survival kits but am glad that you are ready just in case.

Since I had gum disease and lack of calcium in my teeth, I wanted to have all my teeth's pulled out and where dentures..I got tired of going back and forth to the dentist for every little major things that the dentist thinks I have to have done..I feel so good with my dentures that they feel so natural and I can eat anything too..So if you feel you can handle the procedures then go for it!..=)
